Channels and how they are related

I've always thought about how the different channels might be related, if that was the case.

BBC 1 and BBC 2 are like brother and sister
ITV and Channel 4 are like brother and sister. When Channel 5 came along it became like Channel 4's brother and ITV's step brother.

BBC 1 and BBC 2 are like the aunt and uncle of ITV and Channel 4. (Mainly because the beeb was always referred to as "the auntie")

Then of course all the channels on the Sky Television network were a big family - brothers and sisters. Other channels that were on Sky, but not strictly sky channels like Nickelodeon, were cousins. UK Living and UK Gold used to be sisters. UK Living, Nickelodeon etc were 2nd cousins of ITV, BBC and Channel 4.

Of course, nowadays, the family units (or channel names) have altered and more channels have sprung up. UK Gold and UK Living are now Living and UKTV, so are cousins instead of sisters. Since these channels are older, they are like aunts or uncles to the newer channels like Fiver, 4 music etc..

Fiver, FIVE USA, Channel 5 are all brothers.
The Hits and 4 music are husband and wife, and their children are all on sky (the amp, scuzz, Smash hits etc)

The ITV, BBC and channel 4 are like step auntie and uncles to the newer Sky / freeview / cable channels.

Do you see the logic? Have you ever thought about it in this way?

I'd like to add, the bbc radio channels are like step brothers and sisters to the BBC TV channels, but only cousins to other networks.

Channels owned by the same company are sisters i.e. BBC1 and BBC2. Channels owned by seperate companies are no relation whatsoever. UKTV is a special case, as it's part-owned by the BBC's commercial arm BBC Worldwide, and by Virgin Media. This makes their channels half-sisters to the BBC channels and to the likes of Living and Bravo.

But BBC 2 is more masculine because of the gardening and war programs. BBC 1 is more feminine because of the soaps and men running around in shorts.
