So such staff meetings/management information meetings/morale-boosting talks/feedback sessions are uncommon in other companies? And achieve nothing?

And exactly how much money was spent?

And was another thread really needed?

telling comedians they have the freedom to make good comedy, clearly no good can come of this, and is a total waste of licence fee payers money.

They are employed by, or contracted to, the BBC. So it was to all intents & purposes a staff meeting (even if you want to split hairs).

I don't know. I was not there, and the report does not go into any detail.

Plenty of other threads available, I'm sure that you could have found a suitable one. Still, as you wish, whatever suits your requirement and agenda.

And you still failed to answer the question that I posed regarding similar meetings in other companies.

Also the BBCs attitude towards comedy and allowing its "talent" the freedom to express themselves in comedy, speaks to its attitude in other areas.

Any "talent" who thinks more about there art than there pay cheque would want to work for a TV company that allows them creative freedom, and those talent folk are the ones we want at the BBC, not making bland programs for Sky, using 1/10th of there skill for 10 times as much as the BBC will pay them.

Good luck finding out!

I was a bit worried by the line (from the article)

Quote:
...BBC Trust chairman Sir Michael Lyons stressed the need for his organisation to be seen as a tough regulator.

Nope, you asked a straight question:

do you thinnk they all happily drink cups of tap water whilst their boss mingled

and I gave you a similar, straight and honest reply.

For the same reason that I frequent other DS forums - to read & partake in informative and factual-based discussions. Maybe this was the wrong thread .........

So do you think that other companies hold similar meetings?

Because the newspapers have created this climate of fear that is saying "be careful what you do".

If leads to blandsville it will be the newspapers.

Blandsville.

All due to 'the unique way the BBC is funded'.

The drinks could be comprised of

a) bottled water

b) beverages

c) fruit juices

d) alcohol (from beer, lager, wine, through to champagne of varying vintage).

and paid for

a) by the BBC

b) by the management (i.e. out of their own pockets)

c) by the attendees

d) or any combination of the above (for example, an initial "tab behind the bar", and then out of their own pockets).

In truth, we are not told, and I do not go a bundle on idle speculation and gossip based upon a single (throwaway) line in one web page report.

I wasn't joking actually.

Perhaps that is the case, but it does not prevent me from hoping that factual discussions can take place, even if a number of posters here seem to base everything on rumour, ill-conceived guesswork, idle speculation and agenda-driven theory.

Any medium or large company, in any business sector, public or private.

So I will ask the simple question yet again:

So do you think that other companies hold similar meetings?

Well, you don't seem to want to answer the simple question that I have already asked more than a couple of times.

And I have seen little attempt from you to discuss the article other than to focus in on the drinks & love-in comments.

No attempt to discuss this:

Quote:
Thompson told stars over drinks at Television Centre yesterday evening, that he still wants Mock the Week to be “on the edge, in terms of creativity and in terms of risk taking”.
or this:

Quote:
talent also quizzed Thompson about the culture of compliance, whilst BBC Trust chairman Sir Michael Lyons stressed the need for his organisation to be seen as a tough regulator.
or this:

Quote:
“There was a sense that the BBC is a bit embattled, but really we were all just pleased to be there being told how important it is that we go on making good telly.”

Do you actually read at all?

Blandsville would be a result of the newspapers, not the BBC!
