Is Lloyd as bad as people suggest he is?

Sure, he's out of his depth, and given the song choices, he's had some pretty awful performances, I kissed a girl stands out as a particularly awful listening experience.

But there seems to be suggestion on this board that he can't sing, he's tone deaf, untalented, and so on, but actually is he really that awful?

I don't think he is, I think like the performance on Saturday showed, generally, he's fairly comfortable, but has the odd moment, like where he went out of tune after the high note.

He's never going to set the world alight, he's a pretty boy, with a pretty tone, suited to a very specific type of song, very much a niche artist, but he's not really as bad as people make him out to be, is he?

Watching this, after Yvie corrects him, he doesn't actually sound that bad to me.

I realise people will suggest I say this because I fancy him, or whatever, but I actually always listen back to his performances with my eyes closed, because I'm aware that it probably does have a bit of an effect.

He's clearly one of the worst vocalists this year, and he is out of his depth, I wouldn't disagree with that, but he's a passable singer, and probably better than the average person out there, I think.

Anyway, I just wanted to see what others think, I figured it would be nice to have a constructive thread, and hope this doesn't descend into people posting horrible comments.

I suppose, I tend to like a pretty vocal like Lloyd can do, and I think the only real thing wrong at the moment is a) song choice and b) he's probably not good enough for a competition like this (please note, that doesn't necessarily make him bad).

Here endeth my thoughts.

I'll be back after my driving lesson.

His voice isnt developed enough, hes two or three years to early.

He's awkward on stage, trying to do vocal gymnastics to hide that he cant hit a note dead on a lot of the time, but that goes back to being too young.

Cheryl had no business putting him through, not fair on him , and given her 'the girls will love you' line, obviously she wasnt basing it on musical talent but who would get votes to stay in to make her look good.

I think Lloyd is the non-comedy version of John & Edward. He doesn't sing much better than them and lacks stage presence, but he seems like a lovely kid and I've enjoyed his last couple of performances even though everyone else seems to think they were dreadful.

uh no he can't really sing..his voice doesnt really have any range to it whatsoever. it's just quite deep and monotonous. which if he ever produces an album, most of the songs will sound the same and will all sound as bland as each other.

his performances so far have been rather cheesy and i guess its to appeal to the 14, 15 year old girls...so as far as i'm concerned he doesn't have anything to offer musically.

He isn't bad - it's just that he's up against singers with strong voices (J&E excepted) and that doesn't show him to best advantage. It has the same effect as a talented, inexperienced amateur being up against older professionals.

He's just a bit outclassed this season. Had he done a couple of years as part of a boy band to get some experience and then gone solo, it might be an easier route.

What people have to remember is that he hasn't had his adult voice for long, so he's still getting used to it. No doubt he's going to improve.

He has a very limited and dull voice. He should never have been picked for the show.

I think Lloyd is a really nice kid but his voice is weak at the moment and I really don't think he was ready for this right now.

He should have had professional singing lessons to find his range and develop his voice and tried XF in a couple of years imo.

I think the problem with lloyd is he has entered a singing compertition with no vocal training prior to the show....he is just going off his very "raw" talent.

I think thats what people forget..everyone one else has had training or stage school or something but lloyd has had nothing.

He does have a very limated range but im sure that can be changed somewhat with vocal lessons, he really does have a lovely tone and can on occasion hit a kinda powerful note.

For no training whatsoever i think Lloyd has a lovely voice, no its not powerful but its gentle and i like that about him.

Does he need a lot more work? yes
Is he a bit out of his depth? yes....

Is he untalented? no not at all in fact i think he is very talented and could turn out to be a great singer in a few years.

I think he's got a lovely voice. Not as big and loud as the rest, but it's there.

IMO him and Lucie were the only marketable acts left in the competition until Lucie carked it...

I just can't see the like of Jamie, Stacey, Danyl or even Olly being very marketable or selling stacks of albums etc.

Lloyd has the look of a popstar and is the only one who I could see being endorsed - but thats mainly down to the way he looks - if that makes sense?

The Twins will have a good career regardless of the result as they will prob be big TV stars (in Ireland or here).

I also think his song choices have been dire and not helped out by the awful theme weeks - had it been a series 2 regime I think he would be more liked as the mentors could pick whichever song regardless of the theme.

he truly leaves me cold.. you can even overlook the duff notes..he cant inject ANY emotion into a song something all singers MUST do.

How the hell Cheryl picked him and with the advice of will young!!

I would say he's just totally out of his depth and should never have been in the final 12. I think the same about Ricki too.

In the great scheme of things, Lloyd is probably the boy at school who can sing a bit and so was always lead in plays, choirs etc. Compared to the average person on the street, he can sing. But compared to the fact these people are supposed to be some of the best undiscovered talents in the UK (debatable but YKWIM), then he really isn't verty good.

I have to say you are my favourite Lloyd fan ever
You admitt that it may be his looks that make you like him more but you do genuinely like his voice.

And I agree he has a nice voice and should have waited another year for it to develop.

But he, like you admitt, was one of the worst vocalists out of the top 12, but he does have a nice tone and good luck to him.

He doesn't deserve to be in the top 12 in Britain, and he is the least deserving of the top 7. He's a nice guy but will be out next week.

And he's not tone deaf! Things get exagerated on this forum

I only started watching the XF last year so the only one of these I remember is Eoghan, who was a highlight of the show for comedy value.

Eggnog could sing pretty well but he had terrible hair, like a Tiny Tears doll that's been kicking around on the bedroom floor for six months. There was also his unfortunate habit of sticking his tongue out during the "vote for me" look into the camera every week, and the fact he looked about 12 years old.
