McAlpine: 'Corrie Christmas is dramatic'

Jennie McAlpine has revealed that Coronation Street fans can expect a mix of dramatic moments and humour in the soap's Christmas episodes.

The 25-year-old actress, who plays newlywed Fiz Stape in the Weatherfield drama, told RTÉ that the cast are "in the middle" of filming the festive instalments at the moment.

She continued: "What can I say? It is dramatic, really dramatic, but I think it's going to be really, really traditional Corrie, in that there's real high drama over the Christmas, but then real farcical comedy as well. Christmas Eve is very funny."

McAlpine added that she is proud of how the programme's Tony Gordon (Gray O'Brien) plotline reaches its conclusion over the coming weeks.

Discussing the murderous businessman's fate, she said: "That actually gets really interesting. Definitely watch that space because it involves so many people. It's really one to watch."

I just hope her and John Stape aren't involved too much in proceedings.

spoiler:
Tony hands himself into the police next week so presumably that is his last appearance unless he is coming back for the trial as im sure i read somewhere that Michelle splits on him in court or something like that

tenchgirl I sort of agree unless Tony's story is still kind of part of it. Maybe Tony sitting in his cell crying and looking at that picture he took with Maria and Liam on the day Liam was born and then Maria is sat looking at that pciture as well or that tape that Tony made her in the video on the website and Carla looking at that picture of her, Tony, Liam and Maria.

Just an idea. But of course if Molvin are centre stage I will cry.

I don't think this will be a better christmas than any other years. The last two christmases have been dire.

Tony's exit next week should be good but it has been waiting to end for months and months.

Roy constantly going over Tony's and then changing his mind has been getting too much but I'm glad that this week it all kicks off to a conclusion.

I hope that Kevin and Molly's affair isn't centre point as it's no Stacey and Max by a long shot. They could never beat that reveal and so couldn't any other soap.

I think if we get lots of storylines to do with the barlows,eileen,steve/becky and norris and etc we could get a great family one it wount beat eastenders but these days corrie never does.

Shame Maria is leaving shortly (though as the actress was about to give birth, no way round it) as it would have been good to get more of the confrontation between her and Tony and the aftermath and effect on her. I imagine the character will now be leaving very soon as Samia gave birth a few weeks ago now.
