Maria Connor “goes crazy” when she finds out Tony Gordon killed her ex-husband in ‘Coronation Street’.

Samia Smith - who plays the hairdresser in the ITV Soap – has told of how distraught Maria is when she finally learns the truth that the man she has recently become engaged to is actually the murderer of Liam.

She said: “She goes crazy when she finds out Tony was really behind Liam’s death. She feels betrayed, shocked, and physically sickened that she could have loved this man and let him into her family.”

Tony (Gray O’Brien) had previously confessed his secret to cafe owner Roy Cropper after suffering a heart attack, who had in turn told his wife Hayley and then the police - who subsequently re-opened the case of Liam’s death.

Tony was directly responsible for the murder, a hit-and-run accident carried out by a hitman under orders from the evil factory boss.

Samia also explained how Tony lies to Maria right to the bitter end, when all is revealed to her by police officer DC Smith.

She added: “Maria’s been at a day spa, but she returns home to find out that the police are looking into Liam’s murder again.

“She slips out of the house because she wants to find out what’s going on from Tony. It doesn’t matter what he tries to say to her, though – she doesn’t believe he’s telling her the whole truth, and rushes over to the cafe to talk to Hayley.”

She should but she's really good at unhappy story lines. And do you mean Marcus or Tom? Just wondering because I didn't really watch it when Marcus was in it and I don't know if they were friends or not but Tom was her friend and I thought maybe you meant him.

It's going to spoil everything for her really including her memories of the birth of Liam. It will always be marred because she will now know the person who helped her deliver was her husbands murderer. Nothing like that to spoil the memory of your child's birth

She will feel guilty too because she tried to replace Liam with Tony as her baby's father, even talking about him adopting Liam and calling him Liam Gordon! I can't imagine she'll be in a hurry to tell little Liam about THAT when he's older. The 'I nearly married your Dad's murderer and almost made him your new Dad' story!!

I hope the Connor's don't give her a really hard time over this

Hardly surprising she's going to crack up!

She loves him as much as she hates him - you have to remember that she can't switch her feelings off just like that like a tap. She does have him thats why she tells him to hang himself but a part of her at that point will still love him.

I bet she will be a different woman and I expect a final confrontation between the two where Maria will accidently killl him ,I don't feel for Tony atall he is getting what he deserves I feel sorry for Liam Snr (who didn't deserve to die because he had a one night stand with Carla) Maria (who has lost her husband ,and been lied to decieved and violated by Tony many times over) Liam Jnr(who will never know his father thanks to Tony) Michelle(who has lost her second brother in 18 months ) Ryan (who lost his uncle who was more like a brother/father figure to him and Helen and Barry (who have lost there second son in 18 months and has had to watch the same man try and fill the shoes of both Paul and Liam .)

There's a thin line between love and hate and all that.

She'll still love him but will hate what he has done, will be incredibly angry, feel totally stupid but worse, completely devastated by his betrayal. Can you even imagine what it would be like to find out THAT about the man you love? To say she'll be upset is putting it mildly!
