new bt vision box available?

looking on the vision forum on the bt website there is somebody claiming that they went to a bt counter/shop and managed to order bt vision, but with the new vision box, apparantly sales guy showed him computer screen whilst doing the order and it had a drop down screen for which box he wanted, the grey older one, or the black new one, well obvioulsy he says he ordered the new black one and his order has been accepted, also another couple of people on there that says that they know the new box is available, mind you all of these people are new posters, the one who said about actually ordering it only has 2 posts on the whole site, so dont know whether the information is legit or not, not seen anything official anywhere from bt themselves, just thought i would pass it on

I don't really understand what the excitement is all about, the service itself is surely going to be the same, the ondemand content will be just the same, what's so exciting about the fact it's available in a different colour?

The box won't be compatible with BBC HD on Freeview if Ofcom allow the BBC to encrypt the broadcast channel.
That's why STB manufacturers are waiting to see if it's given the green light (at the moment it hasn't; further consultation) before launching a box that would not be able to receive one of the prime Freeview HD channels.

it is but not st the start

the box can handle HD but will include DVB-T tuners.

later BT will release upgrade tuners to make them use DVB-T2.

well this is a reply from bt vision support on the bt website "Just a quick initial caution - please don't think of the new STB as a new generation. It does the same things as the current silver box and there are a couple of small limitations. I'm still chasing down signatures for what I can / can't say but as we start rolling to customers I'm rapidly hitting the 'publish and be dammed' point.

so it does indeed by reading that look like the box is virtually ready to go out, but also more damning it does not seem much better than current box according to those comments

I'm kinda thinking that in the short term it will offer nothing more than the current box except speed improvements etc. I've no doubt that it will be capable of much but only when BT enable these services in the future.
