Why do they give Gail platt so many unlucky storylines - Soaps

gail platt has to be the most unluckiest soap character of all time.

when she gets married to Joe it will be her fifth wedding (she married Nick Tilsley twice) and nick died.

Martin got fed up of her and moved away, then she married Richard hillman who tried to kill her and four other members of her family.

David has tried to kill her and spent most of his life being evil towards her.

There are loads of more things that have happened to her, i know soaps are not realistic at times but with gail it is just ridiculous as if anyone could be that unlucky.

Actually it was Brian Tilsley. ( I met him once)

And why do they do it, becuase they are unimaginative and have run out of decent senarios for her so just keep churning out the same old plots for her with different blokes.

I think she will only be truley happy once she kicks david platt out of her house and takes a wide birth from men - they just seem to bring the bad luck!

Because when she is happy she has that horrid girly, wobbly headed, hair tossing, whispering and gushing irksomeness that is just completely annoying and face-slappingly vexatious.

She's much better when she is pissed off - with David or Sarah Lou or Nick or, well, whoever is in her sights at any particular given moment.

I think its mainly because she has been on the show for such a long time as some of things mentioned (like her first marriage) is going back 30 years. So when a character is on screen for so long you notice just how much misery they go through. There are a few examples of characters who stick around for a long time and go through loads of tragedy EastEnders Sharon Watts and Kathy Beale being two.

I agree - there was always great chemistry between him and Gail, even after they split up. It'd be good to see them fall in love again. Be interesting to see David's reaction to his return too.

I agree with this. She goes into simpering school girl mode when she's happy. Tres irritating.
