SKY+ card error message

I used to have a sky HD subscription and cancelled this. Therefater I successfully have used the sky box to watch BBC1, SKY NEWS, Discovery channel but obviously not movies or sky sports.

This week I find I am receiving a message saying I need to phone sky re my subscription which I reset and then 1 minute later it repeats and again I reset etc..etc

Any ideas about what I should do to view free to air channels and record these? Thanks

No I do not have any subscription currently.

Frankly I now live outside UK and therefore cannot get legally a subscripti reseton unless I get "cute" and use a relatives address.

I also have a piece of SKY hardware that works great and all I want to do is use that hardware to access:
> Free to View Channels (BBC1, ITV etc)
> Free to Air Channels (Film 4..I think that I believe is locked into having a Sky Card inserted in the slot!)

Unless I am mistaken SKY seems to have rendered my SKY HD box as useless for anything currently, and is trying to force me to buy a SKY subscription.

I have therefore the following question:
> Can I do something to correct my situation? (eg a complete receiver reset, or obtain a card that gives me at least "free to air" channels such as BBC1, that I can record using the Sky box ?)

The box is looking for your Sky+ Subscription which you need if you want to use the sky+ features of the box.

Sky subscribers on any package get this free.
non subscribers have to pay £10 a month for this service

What colour is your viewing card ?

Take the card out and turn to Ch101 and what happens ?

Discovery is a subscription channel so thats why you cannot view it without a sub

But you should be able to view FTA channels such as BBC1,BBC2 etc and view FTV channels such as Ch5 etc

you say you are abroad but not where ?

you cannot record or use the + functions without a taking at least 1 Sky mix sub unless you pay Sky £10 Pm .

Are you trying to record or simply view bbc1 etc ?

from what I can gather the error only appears when trying to use the Pvr features or all the time.

either way I would say its the card. if you remove it you will he and FTA channels.
the box should work as a standard box if you dont try to use the sky + bits.

do you have anything in your planner that it might be trying to record.

try turning the box on without the viewing card in that should throw up an error disabling the plus features then reinsert your card to get the FTV channels
