Record two and watch a third

Yes, this is possible

It happened to me a few years ago as reported on DS. Now it has happened again!

Eastenders and Gok were recording. I didn't realise two were recording and switched to the Footy from 'stenders on Sports 1. Watched for a minute or so then went to the planner and saw two recordings in progress but could still go back and watch Sports 1. Switched between SS1, stenders, gok and the planner several times so it was not just a coincidence of timing. When it last happened one of the recordings failed but this time 'stenders stopped okay and Gok is fine

In theory if two of the channels are on the same transponder it will work, but I don't know know if Sky+ is that smart.

All I can say in my defence is that they were not for me! Last time it happened the box was going through a wierd few weeks with software glitches and I put it down to that. That time, touch wood, it has been very well behaved for at least the last couple of software updates. Pace V2 BTW.

Ohh I've never been able to do that on mine I dont think I thought that to record 2 at the same time then you have to have the tv on one of the channels that is recording. If that makes sense lol.

you can record 2 while watching a prerecorded one from the planner or use a second box to watch the 3rd

I think this is impossible on a sky+ box.
I'm sure SS1 is on a different transponder to C4 and BBC1.

Yes that's true, however it's not as simple as them being on the same transponder. It works because there are four frequency bands that the box can electronically switch the LNB on the end of the dish to depending on the frequency and polarisation of the transponder of the channel required. (Horizontal and Vertical polarisation for Low Band and High Band).

So, when those two programmes are recording, each tuner has 'told' each part of the dual output LNB to be on the correct band and polarisation to receive that channel.

I don't know all the frequencies off the top of my head but (just as an example - the following probably aren't correct) -

Tuner 1: EastEnders is on BBC One - BBC One is on the Low Band, vertically polarised.
Tuner 2: Gok Wan is on Channel 4 - Channel 4 is on the Low Band, horizontally polarised.

Sky Sports is on say the Low Band vertically polarised, so therefore can be tuned by tuner 1.

That would be possible, and obviously is if the OP is experiencing it!

Well I tested it by putting my box on BBC1,then started BBC1 and C4 recording. When I tried to change to Sky Sports 1 it came up with the two programmes are being recorded warning and told me to cancel one of them.

Yes, that is possible. I however dont think recording two and watching a third (all on sky) is possible because I have tried it and as PhilH36 reports a message comes up telling to cancel one!

Surely each tuner can only demodulate one transponder at a time. Anything else is a bit of a red herring.
