Are EastEnders still moving to Pinewood Studios?
The news came out in Febuary 2008 and EastEnders are still in Elstree.
I am a bit confused here.

I meant with all the cutbacks going on at the BBC, moving to Pinewood has been delayed. The majority of the world are in recession, hardly flush with cash so it's been delayed as a result. They went so far ahead with filming (mixture of HD move and live episode rehersals). I don't think the move will ever happen now, well unless Kirkwood decides on it.

So does this mean they will not be ever going to HD? I thought they were going to sell Elstree?

The only people that know the answer to that question at the moment is the Management at Elstree.
![]() How would the move happen anyway; one episode at Elstree and then the next at Pinewood. Unless there's a double decker bus where they all move. Perhaps it could be a spin off. I could see the Albert Square residents having a sing song down the motorway. |

EE and BB are filmed at different studios. EE is filmed at BBC Elstree (also Holby and used to be TOTP) and BB at Elstree Film and Television Studios (Who Wants to be a Millionaire and various films such as The Shining, Star Wars etc). Both are actually in Borehamwood as opposed to Elstree and are about 5 mins apart by car. There used to be another film studios down there as well, which I think has closed down.

This may not happen at all now, Pinewood has had planning application turned down because of local disapproval which could easily have a knock on effect for Eastenders there is not a huge amount of space at Pinewood and when a big production moves in the backlots are all full so EE would have very little space unless the planning allowed expansion.

The move will happen, it's just a matter of time and planning. EE has a guaranteed future so the move will be worth it for them. As for making the set exactly the same, I doubt that would even be possible, even if they try their best. They should set out to make it look BETTER and to have more areas for filming. The basic layout of Vic, caff, laudrette, market et al should obviously stay the same though. But if other things change are people seriously going to be annoyed?? No.
