Bands looks and sound - Music

Why do some bands dress in a certain way and yet their music doesn't match. You get bands who dress in a victorian gothic way but they just sound rock. There's a band who dress as noblemen but they don't sound operatic .

Interesting. I've never given bands images much thought to be honest. It's all about the music!

I just thought that if had a certain look then the sound match. Like Annie Lennox always dressed in her videos in a way that matched the music

I heard The Cure before I saw them and their image didn't seem to suit their songs at all.
