New Torchwood in New Year

Paul Ross on the Alan Titchmarsh show, today on ITV1, said that there will be cracking viewing in the New Year, as Torchwood and Jack are BACK!!!!! Discuss

Um... he doesn't know what he's talking about! Okay, maybe that's more of a statement the opening gambit of a discussion ;-)

I'm afraid Paul is talking out of his backside there. While I do believe Torchwood will be back (all signs point to it), it certainly will not be in the new year since no filming of any kind has taken place for it yet. I think it's possible they might commence filming the series in the new year, but it wouldn't broadcast till late 2010 at least.

Depends if he meant Torchwood the program or Torchwood the organisation.

If Jack does not appear until The End of Time Part 2 which is broadcast on 01/01/10 then he (and TW as he's a member) is back in the new year.

spoiler:
Jack is in End of time, TW are probably not. The scene he was seen filming was in what doubled as an alien bar, so not earth bound at all. I presume he is still trying to shake the dust off his boots. Of course his apperence could also be part of a dream sequence. Either way I don't think Torchwood factor in it.

For myself personally I think we would get an announcement of some sort in the period between the new year special and S5 of Doctor Who starting. However this would give RTD some time to finish off what ever he has planned for S4 of Torchwood, gives Eve some time to adapt to being a mother, casting a brand new cast ect

in the DS interview with JB a while back he mentioned that he had kept early 2010 free for any filming that may occur.

To be pedantic 'back in the new year' could mean broadcast any time up to Dec. 31st 2010...it doesn't necessarily mean at New Year or shortly after it. So PR's claim could be valid, filming not started or not.

when someone says 'in the new year' they mean at the start of the year.

for example, 'when are you going back to work?'

'oh not till the new year.'

that doesn't mean they aren't going to work till the end of the year.

It's a common expression for something that will happen when the new year starts.

I agree.

The correct phrase should have been 'Torchwood returns next year' not Torchwood returns in the new year.

That's what Paul Ross was talking about then. He must've had inside info. Good news.

Granted I too would normally use 'next year' for anything outside the first few weeks of the year but I was just pointing out that it needn't necessarily preclude something later in the year. And it looks from the reports that he was indeed right to say it will return in the 'new year' since it seems to be coming back next year and that is a 'new year' from this one

Yeah Russell told TV Guide magazine in the States that presuming he gets the green light he'll start planning Torchwood 4 in January, hence Paul Ross's assumption.

I would so love a very dark story starts off.

Tosh, owen, ianto all strapped in chairs..clearly captured by some dark unit.
turns out the ones that 'died' were clones from sontaran tech left over.

each one died before whoever in charge got to know the secret they want more than anything Eternal life how Capt jack has it.

but by the sounds of it RTD knows 100% how this is going to lead on..my main concern is did he kill too many of them off?

Tosh Owen was bad enough..but only him and Gwen left now

IMO he has killed far too many people off, hopefully he can bring in some new tallent which are an instant hit with the viewers- so that Torchwood lasts past the fourth series.

Theres several ways a new series of Torchwood could go, how about Torchwood: Paralell Earth? which would enable the return of already killed off characters, plus there is a Torchwood in Scotland we know very little about, and also there is the posibility of Torchwood branches not yet mentioned; for instance a Torchwood based in Toronto could be based round the CN Tower

No offence, but that sounds dreadful! Clones as a method of bringing back ex characters? Cheating us out of all those amazing death sequences. No thanks. New blood please, either from CofE or elsewhere.

It would be amusing if at the end of the very last episode ever, Jack sees Ianto, Owen and Tosh walking towards him in the distance and we're left with no explanation as to who they are or how they got there - a perfect sci-fi ending

On a more realistic note, it now looks certain that S4 will get underway next year, since RTD is hardly going to make himself look stupid by announcing something that the BBC haven't yet decided about.

Series 4 is still going to be bittersweet without Ianto, Owen and Tosh though. RTD can kill off as many new characters as he likes, it won't affect me in the same way, especially with Doc Ten also leaving soon.
