Murdock threatens to sue the BBC

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/...n5597984.shtml

Is he suffering from dementia perhaps we could list the technology he has 'borrowed' over the years.

And this from the cancerous senile old git who called President Obama a racist, it will be a happy day when that odious murdick drops dead, no more racist arrogant rantings from a paid up member of the rednecked kkk brigade.

This could be fun, I wonder if he'll start crying discrimination/foul if the BBC stops mentioning news headlines/stories from his papers in their nightly paper round up? (you know, where they mention the headlines from the papers that have just been printed, possibly getting people interested in reading them).

It'll be interesting to see what evidence he's actually got, given that many of the stories in both his papers and the BBC are sourced (at least initially) from third parties who break them - and once a story is broken it's not exactly as if any one company/organisation owns the full rights to any reporting on it.

Very good point. If he's going to sue the BBC, then he may as well sue all the other rival companies like CNN, The Guardian, The Mirror Group, etc.

I will laugh my head off if his pay-for-news idea backfires spectacularly (which I am sure it will) and he has to start doing some serious back peddling. Who the hell would pay to read news stories on-line? You're better off reading a paper or watching a 24 hour news channel in that case. Let's hope he loses a lot of money as a result of all this!

Down with Murdoch!

He was something of an evil genius in his day, but I think it's time that his offspring applied to the courts to have him declared unfit to manage his own affairs and have him looked after by professionals before the police pick him up wandering along the road in his jammies at two in the morning shouting at the traffic.

The news itself cannot be copyrighted - learn to live with it Rupert.

Unbelievable. How he thinks he owns the news is beyond me. It's blatant that he is only doing this because he wants to further his own desire to charge for everything, not just for news. It's odd how he isn't going to sue those news providers who steal his news and will start to charge for it? Wonder if he will make an attempt to prevent the BBC News channel, BBC Radio 4, Five Live and Newsbeat from broadcasting as well?

It would be like Sky suing the other Freeview and Freesat members for stealing soaps, entertainment and information that they offer for free.

I hope Murdoch falls flat on his face with this. This man is dangerous.

I actually laughed my head off at your comment! The funniest comment I have seen on Digital Spy for a while, thanks for that!!

I would actually pay good money to see him in his jammies shouting at traffic!! Although only if it was not on a News Corporation pay-to-read website.

So he doesn't want all the free publicity he gets when the BBC reviews his papers on TV and radio, or perhaps he will be paying the BBC commercial rates.Rupert Murdoch is 78.

To use a tabloidesque headline:

"Old Man In Doesn't Understand Modern Technology Shocker!"

"Where Are My Glasses!"

"What Does This Button Do?!"

"What Do You Mean 'I Sent It As An Attachment'?!"

Note he doesn't say Ad revenue sites make a loss, instead he says they don't make 'serious' money.

This indicates a person not happy to make some money but wants it all to the exclusion of others?

Will rival newspapers now opt sue his empire for nicking their exclusives?

If Murdoch wanted to stop Google indexing their websites all they need to go is put in a robots.txt file. That's it. It would take no time atall and is easy to do.

I also think he's forgetting that things like the AP live feed exists which would cover everything anyway.

I really hope he goes pay only, then he can see his company collapse before he dies.

He only mentions The Times and New York Post so is just the 'broadsheets' he wants to make pay-as-you-go?

No the article says 'which include The New York Post and The Times of London'. He's said before he means all of them.

This makes the case more to keep the licence fee and the BBC. I rather pay money to government/BBC instead to Mr Murdock!!!

I still believe BBC need reforming though!!!

Most of the Murdoch media contains very little News anyway. Unless you count some zeleb picking their nose as news.

Most of it is opinion. I wonder if Fox News could be sued under the "Trades Description Act"

Murdoch is going to start charging to read his papers online, or in the case of the sun he is going to pay YOU to read it.LOL

The sooner he f-cks off the better and let him take his american/aussie passport with him,and his even more odious son james "i hate the bbc "murdoch should also go.

But what a good agrgument for a properly funded public service broadcaster.

I just don't understand why he'd say something so stupid - he used to be canny, even if he was evil.

He'd have absolutely no case. News International and their subsiduries are famous for pushing their copyright enforcement as much as possible already. He'd just lose any case he tried to persue.

No, he is worse than dangerous, he is a threat to freedom of speech and information.

Its refreshing to see so much hostility to him on DS, usually a hotbed of pro-Sky rhetoric.

Or the (possible) early onset of alzheimers leads him to suffer delusions the bbc is nicking all his stories.

He needs to be locked up in a padded room as he is clearly insane and needs to be isolated from society.

Digital Spy should be worried with the amount of "according to The Sun" stories they run each morning.
