I can't understand what all the fuss is about
Long time reader, first time poster.
I've been reading through the cascade of threads moaning about Lucy being kicked off the show, people threatening to talk to Offcom, people slating Simon Cowell for his motives, and honestly, I cant see what all the fuss is about. Yes, okay, Simon said he was going to judge it based on the last performance, but who's to say what's a "good" performance? Surely it's all personal taste, which is why we have 4 Judges with different views. The X Factor is a business masquerading as a Talent Show, and people tend to forget this. This is the Brainchild of Cowell, and without him the show wouldn't exist. Look at it this way; John and Edward stand no chance of winning this show, period. Lucy stood no chance of winning the show either. Simon took the Business decision to keep John and Edward in the show because he knows that, whilst he won't make any money of either of them after the show, they keep viewers tuned in. This means more money from phone votes and more money from advertising revenue. He even said this in his decision to send home Lucy, acknowledging that neither of the acts stood a chance of winning, so he chose to keep the contestant that the Public wanted to see (hence putting it down to the public vote). It's impossible to be so naïve as to think that any of the Judges, Producers or anyone Associated with the show genuinely want John and Edward to be off the show. Let's face it, as horrendous as they may be (and I'm not defending them, they are atrocious), people will still tune in to see what song they'll be murdering next week. And remember, it was the public vote that sent home Lucy. Not Simon. |

At last some sense. Thank you.
People are entitled to feel as they do of course, who am I to tell them otherwise? But I do personally find it a little ridiculous. Plus the fact, that for many of the people making such a fuss, it will be "Lucie who?" in a very short amount of time. |

Thank you!
For talking sense. Cos what you've said is completely true. Maybe now people will start to get over it? |

First of all, there is no one on the X-Factor this year that does it for me. Usually by this time, I have a favourite or someone I think, in my opinion, stands out.
Having said that, I did feel that what happened on Saturday was wrong. This is unusual for me as usually I take the X-Factor with a pinch of salt. A lot of people have said that it wasn't wrong because it went with the public vote etc etc. But, in fact, it didn't go with the public vote. The public voted for the previous performance and not the performance that sent lucie home. Basically, the sing-off is advertised (mainly by Simon) as a whole new competition ONLY between the 2 acts that are standing there. I personaly didn't really bond with either of the acts and all this year and previous years I have just watched for the entertainment that it is. I like listening to Simon's comments and nearly every time I feel he says factual things that the other judges are scared to say. Ok, sometimes his comments are direct and hurtfull to the people actually on the stage but usually he includes comments that the majority DO agree with. If the judges are going to play the sing-offs for their own advantages then lets scrap them and just do everything by the public vote as then there cannot be any arguments and it is ALL done on who the public thought were their favourites for that performance. This has all been a god send for the X-Factor because even though there are loads of people threatening to boycott the show this Saturday, I reckon that viewing figures will be even higher than before because of the amount of publicity generated from this. Simon has criticised the twins all along and has had nothing nice to say about them. This was a tactical decision made by Simon with absolutely no thought as to the acts on stage or the validity of the sing-offs. I think the one thing that will come out of this is that his acts will now suffer in the backlash. I think a lot fans WILL now vote for Jedward out of spite and could put his acts more at risk. The X-Factor is a political/business singing competition and we all know there is a lot of stuff that goes on that we probably never get to hear about, but unfortunately for Simon, he made Saturday so obvious and unjust with his intentions. |

So there is no reason to be upset at the facts;
*the twins have been and are being used to manufacture car crash TV *that lucie has been used as the expendable pawn for this use *the twins are clearly distraught at the events *the twins were saved despite using a backing track for the singing bits of rock dj...this after louis accused simon of cheating by using a little known movie!!! *the judges vote is supposed to put the better act through as a safety net to stop ridiculous eliminations for a decent act but is inconsistently based on the sing off (which the public do not vote for) previous performances (as in llyod's case which has already been voted for) but always more for commercial viability *that in abdicating his responsibility simon is subtly bullying people into voting more. *Viewers are being duped into thinking this is a serious talent/singing show (otherwise why would they vote?)..many of us though wised up years ago! I suggest you think a bit deeper into this OP |
