Watch one channel & record another!

Hi,

Long story - just moved house and after three years of trouble free use of my Humax9200, I cannot get a signal from the aerial at the new house. I dug out my old sky box and I'm able to watch the free channels but obviously cannot record one channel and watch another.

Is there a cheap (I've got no money left) way to do this? I've got the two cables coming in from the Sky dish so I considered getting another box, or could I get a simple Freesat box and plug the other cable into that?

I've got a Panasonic DVD RAM recorder so that helps a bit, but it's not really what I need.

Thanks

Without a subscription to Sky TV, you will never be able to record anything using the Sky+ functionality. So, you will also not be able to make use of the twin tuner functionality, as the second tuner is only used when recording to the Sky+ hard drive, and without paying Sky something you can't record to the hard drive.

You could get a Freesat box (or a second Sky box, which will be cheaper) and connect that to the second cable - then use one box for watching, one for recording (to your DVDR). Alternatively, you could get a Freesat+ box which would allow you to both watch and record the free satellite channels - but they aren't cheap.

Is there a good reason you can't get a signal from the aerial at your new house? Getting that working (if possible) might be the best bet.

Obviously if you are not now in a Freeview area then that's different.

Thanks, I don't know why I can't get a signal - I only moved about half a mile. The freeview receiver in my TV does not work either. It's just a normal analogue aerial but it is split between 4 rooms via a distributor in the loft.

I would connect the sky box VCR SCART to your DVD Ram Records AV2 SCART and then switch on the panasonic Ext Link funtion. If you now select a program from the Sky Guide and set it to autoview then it will start the recorder going at the right time without using any timers. I bit like a poor mans Sky plus.

I would then buy a freesat box and connect that to you TV for watching TV with, I would not get another Sky Box because the remotes would conflit.

You can then record programs like having sky plus a watch a different channel on the freesat box.

bypass the aerial amp in the loft to your PVR see if it works then.

might just be the amp isnt good enough or aerial needs moving/changing or possibly doggy cable from aerial or connections.
