Well not totally unexpected, at least they are airing the remaining episodes.

I think there should be a special tv network for people with brains and taste and leave all the others to run “reality” shows.
Quite...

That's a shame. I've been really enjoying Dollhouse.
At least it got a second season though...unlike Firefly. Grrrrr.

DS is putting a slightly more positive spin on things, not that it'll matter.

Sad news - but not surprising, I'm glad there was a second season and looking forward to the rest.

Another one to add to Summer's growing list of cancellations! heh

At least we'll get closure, still a bit annoyed though. Bad day for me in terms of TV with the CW announcing a hiatus for Gossip Girl of four months. Damn.

To be fair, it has been cancelled before we've even seen her and more proof that Whedon and Dushku are very highly overated.

Says you!Ratings don't equate to quality but it gives the haters something to bang on about.

Well... Taste is subjective, and as for brains, Dollhouse was far from intelligently produced so it can't expect to pull in that demographic... In fact, perhaps if it had targeted the "brainy" audience rather than pandering to the teenage audience (by needlessly sexing itself up every week) it would have performed far more impressively.

Whether that was the fault of Whedon, Dushku, the production team or the network is irrelevant. The choice of target audience was poor considering the show's concept and it was always going to be the death of it.

Blimey! that was a bit emotional weren't it.

Dushku can't carry a lead and is basically a B movie actress while Whedon is just living off past glories........ and why on earth would I hate them?

In terms of critical response, this has been his first real failure. Firefly was cancelled, but still well-received, especially in hindsight. Everything else he has produced has been successful.

Well i'm feeling emotionalimo Dollhouse was well produced and if it had been on syfy would have been a hit ,but if you mother had nuts...........also Whedon still displayed flashes of brilliance so "living off past glories "is a tad harsh imo and i have a feeling come ep13 this show will be mourned a bit more.

I think Firefly and Serenity were both saved by DVD sales.

Ok, perhaps I was a bit harsh on Whedon but Dushku is very much a lightweight actress.........who looks good in a short skirt.

You might have noticed, I have admitted to harshness with regards Whedon but that's as far as I'm going.

I hoped against hope, but was kind of expecting this.

Fox obviously needs to change its Friday scheduling strategy. Sci Fi obviously doesn't work. Aiming at a young audience obviously doesn't work.

Anyway, I look forward to the next 9 episodes and I'm sure will be the best TV this year.

Shame - given the show has finally found its stride - bit not at all unexpected.

Hey ho - 26 episode is better than nothing.

Maybe somebody has pointed this out elsewhere (if somebody has, I have not read it), but let's face it: Whedon brought this on himself. His distinctive voice, his vision, his cult appeal as opposed to mass appeal, makes him more suited to work in US cable television than in US network TV. Does anybody seriously doubt that ANYTHING he would make would be a hit by the lower ratings standards of cable TV? If he has spent time in the offices of HBO, Showtime, even FX or Syfy, pitching ideas for shows and the executives keep rejecting his pitches, then I apologize to him, but the impression I am getting is that he doesn't even bother with TV outside of the traditional networks, which do PAY an executive producer a lot more than cable.

To be fair to JW on this one, Dollhouse was created for Fox due to Dushku's deal with that network. It was not shopped or pitched to any other networks. And by the same token, Fox approached Joss to make a show for them (which turned out to be Firefly) - again, it wasn't shopped to any networks, it was made for them.

Aaaanyway, Joss has posted on Whedonesque that his next project will be announced by the time the final DH episode airs in January. I suspect it'll Dr Horrible 2, but I hope to be nicely suprised with a new show on a minority network (which would, indeed, be his natural home).

TSCC cost twice as much to make, and got the same ratings. Seemed an obvious choice for Fox.

I admit season 2 of TSCC was rubbish but it was imo a better calibre of a show and had more potential to do well considering the plot.

Dont forget that TSCC was cancelled on the premise that a potential cancellation of Dollhouse was going to ignite a firestorm similar to when Firefly was axed.

I'm not sure that is the case. I think that's just what a bunch of Whedon/Firefly fans wanted to think. Pretty sure Fox doesn't give a crap beyond that cash - and Whedon brought in the second season for a very low figure.

I think the Irony being with a very subtle re-write to make the Dollhouse part of the Buffyverse (Military experiment along the lines of the Initiative etc, with the stretch that they'd cloned Faith because Slayers were popular or something) this show would probably not be cancelled....

Maybe for Security for his next show Joss should come up with an idea that settles his creative urges then find a way to make it part of the Buffyverse, rather than come up with a new Buffy series, which I assume he has no interest in.
