BBCi Bridge Changes

The BBC I bridge has had a make over and now when you access any of the links that take you to the walled garden you still get the BBC channel in the top left of the screen and you can toggle between full screen and top left by pressing 0

Looks alot better than it did!

Also News Multiscreen is now accessable via BBC One

its also got a new help option screen and is for the first time accesible through bbc parliament.

in the help menu it says that there will be "a makeover of the bbci content soon".

but does the changes not go against the standard layout for the bbci bridge on the other digital platforms? or are the changes not just for digital cable?

we dont get an update on bbci for years and then so many come along at once! lol

Ive noticed on a Sky digibox they are still running with old bridge -I wonder why Sky havent moved over yet -normally they are the first to get everything?
Has anyone got a freeview box -is this new bridge on a freeview box?

Like the little animation that happens when you select some thing that takes you to the walled garden, the red slides to the right and the little arrow that sticks out from the bridge slides into the bridge and disappears behind it....nice touch!

woho! that's like full bbci almost. it's not in walled garden either - walled garden content would have the telewest bar across the top of the screen.

cool. you telewest peeps have almost got the fully monty! lol

Hmm, it is and isn't 'walled garden' at the same time - whilst it doesn't have the Telewest bar, the pages behave like walled garden sites where the black section at the top takes up the same amount of space as the Telewest bar and the pages have the yellow selector like walled garden sites - in fact, they're the same as what was accessed via the walled garden!

The same applies to QVC, where the top bar features the QVC branding but the pages behave as HTML walled garden pages.

Sorry to be cynical but is anyone else a bit dubious about this?? I like the designs, however, the bridges seem to have lost some functionality in that the channel and current prog arent displayed and the bridges dont seem to be dynamic in relation to the prog thats on... Also, they dont have the little icons that tell you if the menu selection is an interactive service or a text service etc - thought this was one of the core priniciples of the "new" BBCi???

Just out of interest is the BBCi service on cable as good as/ better than/ not as good as/ the service on Sky? Is it as fast? page numbers? six screens for the news? Do you get all of the sport and extra features?

hopefully this is finally it out of the walled garden - maybe in the first instance they've got that far, and now just need to tweak it to utilise the space better, and hopefully add in all the bits and bobs that are available on sky.

i like the new bridge, although its a shame the channels have lost their individuality, and it does seem odd that the programme titles and icons have gone AWOL, but hopefully we'll see it come together quite quickly now.

Below the top bar it all looks identical to the walled garden.

My guess is that they are still in the walled garden, but have been allowed to make their own top bar. Judging by how similar the NTL and Telewest bars are, I'd even say that the 'press 0 to view full screen' bit is actually an 'advert'

One thing I have noticed - if you access BBCi from the TW homepage and you are not watching BBC channels, you get Front Row ads and not the channel you are watching.
