FM Radio from CoAx

I've still got my FM tuner wired in to the Telewest wall point with Telewest CoAx; up until last week, all was working fine with lovely uninterrupted stereo FM with RDS signal.

Now, all I get is hiss. There's definitely no connection problems - I've scanned the entire FM wave band and there's nothing on there.

Is this permanent? I recall the FM signal disappearing about four years ago for a period of time. Anyone from TW got any information on this?

Hi Anna,

I work for Telewest. I'm asuming you have Digital from us?

Radio was carried along with the analogue signal, but is discontinued now I'm afraid. You can find most of the popular digital radio stations on your tv service aswell as your local radio stations.

Yes, but its unlikely that you are able you use that 20Mhz of bandwidth (88-108Mhz) for anything else... Hope this doesnt get discontinued in the Cheltenham area. There are about 5 local FM stations that have not made it on to your Digital Service yet...

As I understand it, the "FM Hookup" was only available with the analogue service. Those that kept it (thanks to generous engineers, or whatever ) were getting something they should not have been getting

Let Telewest know you want certain radio stations on your local service via http://www.telewest.co.uk

I see that TW are as good as ntl when it comes to communicating to their customers then.

I might be wrong, or this might be outdated, but I was under the impression that the CATV companies had to carry local broadcasts as part of the licences. If this is correct, and (like ntl) have no local stations on the digital TV service yet, then this would be a breach of their terms of carraige.

Maybe someone can check into this.

Well, they do carry some, in the Cheltenham and Gloucester area they do carry a few Bristol Stations as well as Severn Sound and BBC Gloucestershire.

However in Cheltenham and Tewkesbury have a UKRD station called Star1075 which these days seems to have a large Cheltenham audience, while they still listen to Severn Sound the other side of the border (Gloucester)! Star is not carried on Telewest...

In addition BBC Glos often splits their FM and AM Frequencies to often cover Cheltenham Town Football and Gloucester Rudgy Club matches which often are at the same time on saturdays. Only the FM version is carried on Telewest....

Ah ok you're doing better than ntl then. We don't get any of the local stations through the DTV, but then we do still have the FM hookup!

Living in the West Midlands, I can think of at least 3 stations that Telewest don't provide on their digital service.....Kerrang, Saga and The Wolf.

If we're being picky, a lot of people also like to listen to BBC Hereford and Worcester as well.

Also, although we get Capital Gold, it is not our local version, ie. we get MIck Brown at breakfast instead of Tom Ross. I can understand this if the service is provided by Sky Digital, but not when Telewest provides other local radio stations.

Another point is why on TW digital is the local (North East) version of Century FM not carried, same with Galaxy.. we get the versions that are carried on Sky digital which are the Manchester and South Yorks versions respectively.. Although these are actually slightly better than the local ones..

I bought a piece of coax yesterday and hooked it to my TV, only got C5 and MTV Europe in the clear and lost the video channel so scrapped that.

But the amount of FM radio stations is fab, my stereo will finally get used without having to pass it through the digibox. It also means that I can listen to the radio while someone watches the TV upstairs (video sending)

How long before this gets canned in other areas?

Can anyone point me in the direction of a frequency list for the Telewest CoAx FM radio service.

Thanks

I think the frequencies are different in different areas, and any list you do find will probably be outdated.
