Teletext Cars Appears On Freeview Channel 56

Teletext Cars has appeared today on Channel 56.

The LCN Name has been updated, but it is still broadcasting an MHEG with 'Coming Soon' displayed.

I wonder what this service will be for anyway?

Advertising used cars, or showcasing new cars??

Why do teletext have to keep making new channels and getting rid of old ones. they don't seem to know what they're doing.

Isn't it possible to just have one teletext channel with all he info on that?

My Nokia said "Teletext C", and then after a rescan, it changed to "Teletext Cars"

Teletext has quite a high presence on Freeview.

09 - Teletext
50 - Teletext on 4
54 - Teletext TV Guide?
55 - Teletext Holidays
56 - Teletext Cars

and coming soon Teletext on ITV

Teletext TV Guide has been scrapped to make room for Teletext on ITV.

Absolutely...I agree with this and of course there are continual moans about the quality and breadth of the BBC's on-line offerings an that these should be flogged off to "entrepreneurs".

A continual aspect of the Rip-Off Britain is that once anything not-for-profit is good then it must be sold off to commerce so that some rat-bag can make a pile out of it.

Remember 192 and just what the 118 companies are now making ..double the cost for half the service..ditto the £billions pumped into privatised railways.

Yeah they probably don't. I never saw the point in the Teletext TV Guide because Channel 9 Teletext has a TV Guide!!! Maybe that's why they didn't update Teletext TV Guide to the more newer, fresher one on channel 9.

For those with boxes without an EPG Teletext TV Guide was a helpfull channel - you didn't have to trawl through the main Teletext to see what was on, or go through the BBC's not-so-good tv guide feature.

Will be missed.

Teletext TV guide was carried in Teletext's own gifted capacity on MUX2. Teletext on ITV will use space from ITV's part of MUX2 just as Teletext on 4 uses space on CH4's part. They would only needed to have removed the guide to launch a new service of their own, hence the guide on ch54 was removed to make way for Teletext Cars on ch56 not the new ITV service.

I have to agree though, removing the most useful guide for users of non 7 day EPG boxes and replacing it with ads makes me . Suppose you never get anything for free though

READ IT. How are you going to get to Teletext Cars if there is no channel to link to it? You can't turn to Car TV on 35 and press red.

I really don't see the fuss about having the 50-59 range reserved for text services - and then Heaven forbid actually putting any there.

Well I think that the text channels should all be in the 50s then as it's a pain having BBC THREE on 7 then you have a blank text channel on 9 (Teletext) then you have TeleG on 8 which only broadcasts for a hour a day so is mostly a text channel then BBC FOUR on 10 I think that Digital Terrestrial needs an EPG reshuffle even at the end of the radio section as they seem to just add radio channels on the end and they are all out of place.

I agree entirely, but Teletext have decided, no doubt for commerical reasons, that their channel would be noticed better and used more (and hence more attractive to advertisers) if they remain on channel 9. And under the terms of their analogue/digital licence it seems they have a right to stay there, whether we like it or not.

I'd prefer to see all the 24 hour channels listed first, followed by the timeshares, and then subscription, radio and text but this is very unlikely to happen so we should get used to it and stop complaining.

You could go to Men & Motors (If it comes before it turns into ITV4)

if teletext cars is on the same mux as the main teletext, then it should be linked from that and not have its own lcn. then they would only need 2 lcn's - teletext on 9 and teletext holidays (as thats on a different mux)
