UKtv Drama daytime

Don't know if anyones noticed but UKTV Drama has expanded its hours today and began at 1300hrs. They seem to be copying ITV and are calling the channel UKTV daytime....looks as though they may have rushed things to get on air early cos there have been several breakdowns of service during the afternoon...and on several occassions programme announcements have been made over a blank screen!!
Looks like 1300-0600 for transmission time though.

Yes, UKTV Drama will go 24 hrs a day from Monday 30th May. I also predict that UKTV Drama +1 might be on the cards soon!

UKTV Drama +1 could launch to timeshare with UKTV Style Gardens +1, like this:

UKTV Style Gardens +1 (8am - 6pm)
UKTV Drama +1 (8pm - 6am)
(This allows UKTV to have a 2 hour gap between the channels)

If the above two channels launched, ALL UKTV channels would have a +1 variation, apart from UKTV Bright Ideas. However, UKTV Bright Ideas might be replaced in the coming months by UKTV Sport, and UKTV might launch UKTV Sport +1 to complete the network!

In terms of EPG numbers, UKTV could either wait until the major EPG number reshuffle in the autumn to launch them (when numbers will be available), or UKTV could let them be launched at the end of the entertainment section UNTIL the autumn.

Didn't they reduce the hours of UKTV Drama, a couple of years ago?

Yes, UKTV Drama did broadcast 7pm - 7am as it timeshared with UKTV Food 7am - 7pm. But as UKTV Food was proving very popular, UKTV extended UKTV Food's hours to be 5am - 9pm. Therefore, 4 hours were removed from UKTV Drama's schedules and UKTV Drama became 9pm - 5am. UKTV Drama then timeshared with UKTV Food +1 after UKTV Food got a full slot.

Yeah, it used to start at 7pm, but when it started to timeshare with the (then called) UK Food, the Food channel was so popular that UKTV extended UK Food's hours to 5am-9pm with UK Drama starting at 9pm. However, now UKTV Food doesn't timeshare with UKTV Drama (UKTV Food continues to broadcast till 1pm) they can have a go at extending the hours again.

Hopefully they'll move more drama-type shows from UKTV Gold to UKTV Drama and have a bit more variation of comedy shows on UKTV Gold.

**EDIT** 'skyisthebest' you beat me to it! lol
However, to reply to your point about UKTV Bright Ideas, I can't see that being replaced with UKTV Sport - remember UKTV Bright Ideas was created for Freeview. Ideally, we would all like UKTV Bright Ideas and ftn to close down to be replaced by a better UKTV channel, but as UKTV don't give a crap about Freeview (just check the channel number adverts for UKTV History and UKTV Bright Ideas to see that) I can't see them being that generous.
(and before anyone tries to correct me, I do realise that ftn is not a UKTV channel and that it is run by Flextech. I mentioned them because they obviously timeshare on Multiplex D on Freeview, and I would rather see something like UKTV Gold go full-time on Freeview - won't happen though. Plus the sooner ftn goes the better - it's crap!)

UKTV Drama was formed from the best of the drama output from UK Arena, which originally broadcast from 3pm - 3am. Old classics such as Mapp and Lucia were initially shown on the old UK Arena channel. Perhaps UKTV Daytime could be testing the water to change UKBI to UKTV Daytime, freeing up UKBI for the reported joint venture of Freesport?
