I'm afraid I found this show rather distasteful.

Must say, I found it one of the most entertaining and risky comedic half hours of television for a long long time. When else does anyone (probably since Fawlty Towers) have the nerve to hit on totally non-PC humour (the "accidental racism") on prime time TV.
Hats off to Mr Gervais - all the press is about the A-list cameos when all you need to really do is look at the humour and how far it appears to be stretching the limits of apparent taste and decency. In my opinion, how refreshing it is to laugh at characters making inadvertant general mistakes that we all make - no matter how ghastly. Too often, TV companies are too scared to allow on-the-line humour through - round of applause to the Beeb. Also, hats off to Ben Stiller for a total send up of himself ("Sorry, were you Starsky or Hutch"; "What, do you think that's funny?"; "Why, did you?"). Class writing, top notch timing and delivery - bring on more quality comedy .

I like it. It wasn't anywhere near as good as The Office, which I absolutely loved from the first episode, but it was far better than most of the trash that passes for British comedy these days. It doesn't (yet) have the fantastic characters of The Office, and perhaps the setting makes it more difficult for people to relate to, but I found it very entertaining and will definitely be tuning in next week.

I feel this a comedy that will grow on people. To be honest I wasn't expecting the first episode to be absolutelly amazin anyway. I wish ben stiller was in every epsidoe though because everything he said made me laugh.

I missed last weeks show (forgot it was on) but I'll try and watch this weeks to see what extras (real) do on a tv show..

I was an admirer of the office, for the intelligence of its humour and its fantastic acting. Extras however left me feeling perplexed. It was meant to be a comedy wasn't it? Maybe I've misunderstood its intentions and it is more of a drama. It didn't make me smile even once. So there were scenes to make you cringe, just like in the office, but this didn't equal laughter. I'll give the second episode a view but if it doesn't improve I won't persist in the rest of the episodes.

Well I watched it and I think I smiled 3 times in 30 minutes which averages out at 1 smiled every 10 minutes which isn't right for a comedy. The funniest thing was when the bloke they based the film on showed "Andy" the pictures of his wife and Andy said something about her sunbathing and the bloke goes "No, she's dead". However, that wasn't enough to save the first episode. I'll watch the second one, let's hope I smile more than thrice.

I get the feeling that what ever Gervais did next some people would slate it. Perhaps it wasn't as good as the Office but it was far better than most of the dross on.

I know I laughed once. I definitely remember laughing once. But by the time the show had ended 4 hours later, I couldn't remember what I'd laughed at.
Thank God for Kath & Kim. |

Can't understand why some people didn't laugh, we thought it was great with some VERY funny moments, maybe the comedy is too subtle for them? I actually preferred the new lead woman more than the Gervais character though, it could very easily have been made without him or with a lesser known face in the role? Even the guy who played Gareth in The Office, now he could make me laugh with just one look!

I thought it was a good opener - its going to have people who hate it - let them watch My Family. Personally I loved the realism - it seemed real and true and the part in the bar seemed like any works do i've ever been to..
In my opinion its over too quick! Roll on the next show. |
