What the hell have the done to the bbc three DOG, it's HUGE and far too distracting!

I only hope this is a trial run and that they won't stick with this!

Bad move BBC3!!

Oh no. So while they've been doing nothing at all for the channel in the way of making new programmes or making it interesting to watch they've been working on a new DOG.

It looks AWFUL.

Absolutely revolting! Even putting an analogue clock under the old BUG would look less intrusive. And they chose a time when there is a lack of new material (looping round Little Britain from the beginning, repeating the same episodes of Two Pints for a week before advancing) when less people are likely to be watching.

Oh wow, that is truly awful

Bright white, 100% opaque and HUGE!!

What are the BBC up to? They've also just made the Press Red prompt stay on all the time on News 24 on DTT

I hate all DOGs of course, but that one is really bad.

What's wrong with it? It's the same size as the old one, just in a different shape. I don't know why everyone makes such a fuss!

All odds on me watching The Appretice on BBC3 are gone (although the series being piss poor is another reason). Disgraceful.

I complained to the bbc...

Heya!
Well this is what i sent to the bbc via their complaints web site (I ranted a little):

Good evening to you all. I have just sat down to watch a DR Who episode i missed earlier on in the year (cracking series by the way) and have given up watching due to the GIANT BBC THREE logo you have emblazened onto the corner of the screen in dazzling white. Why have you done this? I believe that DOGs are used to show people who channel hop what channel they're on. These people have an EPG to do that for them. But if you insist on putting one there, why so BIG?! The small BBC Three logo seemed to suffice in it's duty of informing people what channel they were on and didnt intefere with the programming. This logo is just horrible and distracting. As i am watching Rose run from danger, there's a big white logo starring at me. There is just no need. Make it transparent and smaller. I shall not be watching Three's programmes that have this logo on any longer. It's a disgrace that our licence fee is spent on these programmes that are then covered in logos and distractions, no doubt before the end there will be a giant bar along the bottom telling us what's next.
Why not just split the screen into two and have seperate audio feeds for each programme you have on? Oh god, i fear I've just given you an idea....

I shall post the reply should i get one to this thread!

So people that watch the 16:9 picture in 4:3 mode still can see the DOG.

Which is highly amusing considering the BBC refuse to broadcast anything in 4:3 at all (4:3 programmes get shrunk into the centre of a 16:9 frame).

Actually, watching the channel for a bit, it isn't too big. It is about the same size as the abc1 DOG. Though it could do with being transparent rather than opaque so it isn't as harsh.

Just watched the repeat of "The Smoking Room" and I found the DOG to be absolutely awful.

Ignoring the obvious (that DOGs are evil ) this one is too big, too bright, poorly positioned and opaque - all of which add together to make it difficult to actually watch the programme.

EDIT: And since when was ABC the arbiter of broadcasting standards?

The ABC1 dog has the advantage of being in the least obtrusive place on the whole screen though.

Yes, I too watched th Smoking Room, but was only making an observation that the DOG was similar in size to that of abc1. abc1 obviously is no measure of what a quality television channel should be, but when watching it, the DOG doesn't seem as harsh because it is in a darker colour and is more transparent.

True, but if it was bright white (like Beeb Three) you would notice it more.

That is a good point, although they do show some sport in 4:3, like the rugby.
