Timeslip

You would have to be at least approaching middle-age to remember this series from the early 70's, but even if you don't remember it, it is worth any sc-fi fan checking it out. It was set in the then current time of 1970 and featured two children - Liz and Simon - who travelled to 1940, 1990 and 1965. Some of the predictions for 1990 were quite remarkable and still relevant today.
It was released on DVD last year.
Check out the official website.

I can't believe someone else remembers this show! I loved it and still think fondly of it. It was probably rubbish, and I don't think I'd like to see it on DVD in case it ruins the memories, but it was most definitely one of my all-time favourite childhood TV shows.

I also remeber this show, I loved it as well, seem to remember some of it was quite spooky. I think the "doorway" to other times was at the bottom of the garden or something- they used to "slip" through it like a gap in a fence. I have often wondered about seeing it again, but like Gymboy says, it probably wouldnt match my memories of it-

I started a thread on this last year when the DVD's were released. One of the most "grown up" children's TV series of all time. Stood as great sci-fi in its own right. I think some episodes are in black an white because of a strike at ITV?

Challenging story lines and I think one episode had to have the ending cut or re shot because it was considered too gruesome for children's TV.

It's amazing how many people think that no one else remembers it. Don't worry about watching it again spoiling it, it's just as good as it was at the time.
We've just discovered that it's also about to be released on DVD in the US, which is completely unexpected.
There is also a "making of" documentary being produced at the moment which will include footage of a "Back to the Barrier" event from two years ago when the site owner traced the location used for the Time Barrier and returned there with Liz(Cheryl Burfield) and Simon(Spencer Banks), plus a few fans who talked about their memories of the series. Unfortunately only one colour episode exists, which is due to them being lost, although it is true some were filmed in B/W due to a stirke.

Cheers for the link to the website!
I have fuzzy memories of the show, but also remember the Look-In tie-in comic.
My 2 older brothers loved the show, I reckon the dvd would make a nice Christmas present for them

I'm too young to remember the show (), but I read the book when I was a kid and have always wanted to see it - might have to get the DVD. The story seemed incredibly intelligent - I must have read it a good 10-20 times. No idea where it is now though, might have to raid my dad's garage!

I recently saw the first story, and for a "children's" tv programme, I thought it was rather well made, intelligent drama.

Looking forward to seeing the rest when I get the DVD.

I loved this as a child, Spencer Banks always reminded me of my older brother with those glasses!

As far as I know, those concrete fence posts are still there.

They are still there, but you can by this picture that they are not well, one is in pieces on the ground.

I was too young to see Timeslip when it was on TV (I was about 3 months old!) but when it came out on video in the 90s I bought it and thought it was excellent. I have just replaced it on DVD and have so far watched the first two stories again - and it still holds up as a great example of childrens drama that plays in a quite adult mode. It's in no way patronising to children, which is quite refreshing, but it's also rather slow moving, and I don't think children today would give it much time, which is a real shame as it's very thought provoking.

Time travel stories, especially those that create a paradox in the storyline, are tales I really enjoy - which is why I also enjoy Doctor Who so much.

So much so, in fact, that my first novel which was published in June features time travel amongst other things.

Still available from PLAY is the UK release, but a US release with a documentary is out in November.
But its for diehard fans only (like me) as the UK version is fine for the show itself, and the US version is only needed for the doco, and as prices vary from £37(+ surprise import duty) from Amazon to £65 from other places only the saddest of us will have both.
Carlton are sods for only adding stills of the reunion to their set, thus whetting our appetite for it

The documentary for the US release is not exclusive. They are just putting a cut down 18 minute version on their discs as an extra. The full length documentary is owned by the official website and will be released in the UK sometime next year, it will also include new sketches filmed with 4 of the original cast.

It IS exclusive at the moment.
But is the UK release standalone or will it form part of a re-release of the series?

I've always read about Timeslip, but never seen any of it. Thanks for the DVD tip-off. Better than Tomorrow People, then? I watched about 2 eps of that, and gave up.

These are the plans quoted from the team releasing the DVD. All have been filmed and the plan is to release them as a stand alone DVD independent of the series.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Behind the Barrier – A ‘Behind the Scenes’ documentary featuring interviews with the cast and crew etc.

Back to the Barrier – A short, ‘Fly-On-The-Wall’ film of Cheryl Burfield and Spencer Banks returning the Ministry Field for the first time in thirty years.

Beyond the Barrier – A new mini-episode starring Cheryl, Spencer, Ian Fairbairn and Teri Scoble – all reprising their original roles.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

As for it being better than the Tomorrow People, of course it is, what isn't?

The USA release of Timeslip set for November 29th is now on eBay at what looks to be a very cheap price, little over £30 including postage.

DVD IMPORT are charging £30,and unlike the ebay seller, they will not incur customs charges.
But it does seem a very expensive release if you buy elsewhere.
I am getting it,will make a backup of the documentary then resell the set on ebay,so if you want it cut price let me know

I can vaguely remember this but I cant have watched more than a couple of episodes. Reading the summaries it sounds too advanced for a youngster ( even in the more intellectual 70's )

I going to keep a look out for the DVD now as the reviews on here appear to be positive. Sounds if it has stood the test of TIME.

I've bought many(and I mean MANY)eBay items from different US sources and never incurred a customs charge. I've done the same from Amazon and only incurred charges twice. I don't know how their procedures work but the chances of a customs charge seem fairly random.

Customs can be a random thing and seems to be aimed more at commercial goods than private sellers.
I have ordered from Amazon USA and they always print the accurate value when sending,so anything over £17.99 could incur a charge.
I bought the "Up Series" collection for about £45 and got stung a further £10.
DVD IMPORT never show a true value on their packages,so you are guaranteed to get it through without charges, and they are selling it for £30

Liz ...

I have very fond memories of timeslip, both for the overall story and for Liz.

I was in love with Liz; she wasn't much of an actor but she was a very attractive person indeed.

Just a quick reminder to those that intend buying the US release of Timeslip that it is now just a week away.
Interesting to see the American market calling Simon and Liz "two high-school kids on vacation."
