First sighting of Philips Top Up TV box … in Sweden – idTV

I've had a look, but can't see this mentioned anywhere yet...apologies if it has been...
Quote:
Philips is set to begin delivery of its pay-TV capable DTR 2000 digital terrestrial set-top box to Swedish retail outlets. The company tells idtv.co.uk that the box in question is very similar to its planned Top Up TV box, which will now be launching into the UK DTT market early next year (See here for IBC Report mentioning Philips’ DTR 2520 device).

The reason for the similarity is down to the fact that the box is intended for Boxer – Sweden’s subscription DTT network.

Philips says the new box includes Dolby Digital sound, an Electronic Program Guide (EPG), and easy navigation using Philips’ patented Euphoria User Interface. Also included is fast ‛plug-and-play’ installation and a double SCART connection for VCRs. The model is designed with the same ‘look and feel’ as a modern DVD player, says Philips, in order to fit in with other stylish home entertainment devices.

Like Top Up TV, Boxer TV-Access AB, owned by operator Teracom and 3i, provides about 30 digital TV and radio channels to Swedish DTT viewers. Boxer now has more than 450,000 subscribers and is one of the fastest growing digital TV and radio network operators in Sweden. This figure excludes those who chose to watch only free-to-air channels. Sweden, like the UK, offers both paid-for and free-to-air DTT broadcasts, although in Sweden the subscription-based DTT platform has received a lot more attention.

Maybe I dont like the look of the PS2 either to be honest It would just be too similar I want some variation in my home entertainment equipment I heard the reason they changed the look of the playstation 1- to the playstation 2 from the open top to the CD draw effect was because in various levels of drunkness people were confusing the white open top Playstation one with a toilet

I think it's better not to have a flap top....i thought they went out with VCR's in the mid-80's

Anyway, here's another pic....am not certain if it's the exact same model though, but is in a previous story about the Philips TUTV STB: http://www.idtv.co.uk/Images/ibc%20008.jpg

If you go here http://www.idtv.co.uk/ShowNews.php?NewsID=279 it says " In the Freeview area, Philips was showing its new Top Up TV compliant Freeview decoder, the DTR2520, which it says will be available by the end of the year (click here for picture)."

the bolded bit takes you here http://www.idtv.co.uk/Images/ibc%20008.jpg

Yup, looks like it has onboard Viacess, hence the different model number for the UK as is the norm when different CA systems are used.

Thomson makes the DTI-2300 in Europe for a few different encryption types (different model numbers and no MHEG).

Got these boxes in work today, though haven't had a chance to look at the specs - from the box it looks the same as http://www.idtv.co.uk/Images/ibc%20008.jpg The TUTV logo and channels are on the box, but it is not a TUTV To Go box. Didn't have time to check price unfortunately.
