Top Up TV channel line Up

I think that Top Up TV is great as you get a few extra channels to add to the Freeview service on the dtt platform all for £7.99 pre month that just 26p a day and theres no annual contract.

But I really think that Top Up TV should take a look a how there channels are time shared. As I think that it could be better.

This is how I think the Top Up TV channel line up should look and with them biding on the new slot on mux c if it ever goes up for sale.

Slot 1
Boomerang 5am to 9am
UKTV Gold 9am to 5am

Slot 2
Cartoon Network 5am to 6pm
UKTV Style 6pm to 11pm
Television X 11pm to 5am

Slot 3
Discovery Real Time 6am to 12pm
Discovery Channel 12pm to 12am
Teachers TV (fta) 12am to 6am

Slot 4
Bloomberg 5am to 9am Monday to Friday
Toonami 5am to 9am Sataday and Sunday
UKTV Food 9am to 4pm
five3 (fta) 4pm to 11pm
Red Hot 11pm to 5am

Slot 0.5
TCM 7pm to 5am

Slot 6 New Slot on MUX C
British Eurosport 24 hours

So now what do you lot think of my Top Up TV channel line up?

Do you think that how I have time shared the channels is good?

Whereas for £9.75 you get 150 channels a month for 6 months (reverting to 19.50) on NTL or £7.50 with SKY so how can that be value? - oh, no question of this ridiculous sharing either!!

Yes TUTV should give a look at their allocation and revert it all to FTA channel, making the service worthwhile. (Eurosport is available FTA on satellite)

Time sheared, shouldn't that be time shared?

No actually I think it was correct first time, the problem with TopUp is that the channels get sheared down to a silly substandard version of themselves.

p.s.

I know it's bad taste to make fun of somebodies spelling mistakes, but I couldn't resist!

Unfortunately I think it is more likely that Top Up TV will lose a slot (or at least part of one) rather than gain it in the short term.

Highly unlikely, but if TUTV did actually get rich enough to afford another stream...

*= may be used for five.3

Stream 1
5am - 7pm - abc1 (& teleG in Scotland)
7pm - 5am - TCM

Stream 2
5am - 10am: Toonami / Bloomberg
10am - 4pm: Discovery RealTime
4pm - 9pm: UKTV Food
9pm - 11pm: UKTV Style
11pm-5am: Television X

Stream 3
5am - 12pm: Boomerang
12pm - 5am: UKTV Gold

Stream 4
7am - 7pm: Cartoon Network
7pm - 12pm: NEW ADDITION: LIVINGtv*
12pm - 6am: Teacher's TV

Stream 5
4am - 1pm: NEW ADDITION: UKTV Drama*
1pm - 11pm: Eurosport UK
11pm - 4am: Red Hot

NEW STREAM 6
5am - 12pm: NEW ADDITION: UKTV People*
12pm - 2am: Discovery
2am - 5am: a new TVX or educational channel

This would equate to 14 standard TUTV channels (without five.3), up to 3 Freeview slots and up to 3 TVX slots (inc Redhot and TVX as present)

EUROSPORT is not, i repeat NOT fta on Satellite. it is part of the subscription on Sky Digital aswell as being part of pay-tv on Cable and Homechoice.

The closest version to a FTA version of Eurosport would be the German Eurosport, however unless you have a satellite positioned to the german transponder (19.2 - i think) then you have got no chance!!!

Technically if you want to be pedantic Eurosport is Free on 19.2 British eurosport isnt but the difference in the schedule is like comparing ITV London region to ITV westcountry region (Ie not noticabally)

Take it from a Toonami fan. Those slots are useless. This week they will be showing two hours of Megas XLR (repeats) and six hours of Pokémon (more repeats). That's it. All of the best and new shows get afternoon slots, which you never see on Top Up TV. The only way to get any real use out of such limited time would be to put it on Friday 4pm-8pm. Then you'd catch the Destimation Friday slot with most of the new shows and episodes and only use half the time.

Of course that's not going to happen, so my suggestion is that Top Up TV stop insulting viewers by showing a 24/7 channel for eight obscure hours a week and calling it a channel and just give the slots to Bloomberg all week.

Verging on a fantasy EPG thread and you know how they make me angry and you wouldn't want to see me when I'm angry.

SO STOP IT.........

And before anyone says 'why don't you just ignore it'. Well sorreee, here's me thinking that someone might have an interesting point to make about how TUTV could become interesting or actually be of some use to anyone. BUT no just another delusion person who might actually be working out how pointless 'time share' is and therefore wants the whole sorry mess to be hacked around just so they can see episodes of Eastenders from 1992, and forget those who want to see Birds of a Feather........... again.

I completely agree, there isn't anything you can do about TUTV's time-sharing, so making out a new thread on one for the 100000000000000000000000000000000th
time isn't going to make any impact at all, all your do is get peoples backs-up!

Neil wrote an article yesterday reporting that five will now buy exclusivity of its programmes. He wrote that the entire CSI franchise and Grey's Anatomy on Living TV & House and Law & Order on Hallmark could be affected. So five could copy the original E4/C4 relationship with UK premiere on a five subscription channel (E4 subscription) followed by the UK terrestrial premiere on the free-to-air five channel (C4 FTA). When RTL bought a share in TUTV, their press release did say 'it will enable both parties to explore and develop a number of free and pay services on Freeview'.
So five's half of Mux A could look like this :

stream 1 : five (FTA) terrestrial premieres of US imports
stream 2 : five2 (FTA) 2nd chance screening of five programmes
stream 3 : five3 (subscription) UK premieres of US imports
stream 4 : TUTV/Teachers TV overnight
stream 5 : TUTV

Have you forgotten that some people cannot get Sky or Cable and others dont want a dish or extra holes drilled for extra cables to come into the house?

All I did was suggest these - everyone knows that the channel times could be extended. You know how much TUTV enjoy filling one stream with several channels. It was just a suggestion! Personally, I'd like to see Toonami on a better slot than what it is, but that stream breakdown I wrote was just to show an example of what TUTV would do get to get more subscribers, add channels in timeshared slots - equating to TUTV advertising 14 channels.

Toonami 5am to 9am Sataday and Sunday
UKTV Food 9am to 4pm
five3 (fta) 4pm to 11pm
Red Hot 11pm to 5am

Slot 0.5
TCM 7pm to 5am

Slot 6 New Slot on MUX C
British Eurosport 24 hours

So now what do you lot think of my Top Up TV channel line up?

Do you think that how I have time shared the channels is good?
Once again check out www.sky.com before you submit your souls to Topuptv.Believe me Sky now has pick and mix so you can tailor make your channel service.Pretty neat

Sky appear to be including channels that are available for nothing on freeview in the packages you are promoting.

Check your facts. Eurosport is indeed broadcast FTA on Astra 19.2E with an English audio stream. As someone has already said, the difference between Eurosport and British Eurosport is almost negligible (apart from German adverts!)

No, I'm not forgetting that not everyone wants or can receive cable or Sky, but neither can everyone receive Freeview!!

So for £7-50 (rising to £15-00 after two months) I can get Eurosport, UK Gold, TCM, Bloomberg, Cartoon network and UKTV Food?

I dont think so! That mix would cost the full £20+ a month.

The only difference being you get the channels for their full broadcast times, at suitable times, and as stated earlier, Eurosport is FTA on 19.2E, but if you believe £7.99 is a good price for time shared channels then good on you.
In summary, Eurosport is available FTA
UK Gold worth the money if available all the time
TCM - you're kidding me right?
Bloomberg - see above
Cartoon network - if only broadcast at suitable times for the kids
UKTV food - of all the UKTV channels they picked this one

I have better, and no excusing TUTV will convince me otherwise.
Hopefully, they soon will follow the trend of all other DTT pay tv services and become a thing of the past!
