UKTV Gold->Drama (Switched)?

Hmm, This has been on my mind a couple of times, I just thought it seemed odd.

Recently I noticed that UKTV Drama had acquired most of UKTV Gold's Programming. And now Gold is showing some programmes that G-Plus used to broadcast.

I seems like they've started to thin the programmes on Gold & pushed the others to Drama.

I think it has something to do with the fact that UKGold is on TOPUP TV, I think they don't want the decent programmes on gold & instead want more money from Cable/SAT (I doubt they make much from TUTV alone)

Seems to me they've gone down the "Cheap Route" for some unknown reason.

Your thoughts?

Easy solution, launch UKTV Gold on Freeview as a general entertainment offering from UKTV which could replace History, and replace the TUTV slot with UKTV Drama.

this is bit wrong UKTV GOLD is one of the most popular digital channels in the uk in ratio of homes to viewers only Sky One and Sky Sports 1 beat it

uktv gold has most budget of all uktv channels and they would certainly not want to damage it by moving shows to other channels

all their most popular stuff stays on uktv gold

Why replace History?? Freeview needs at least one channel for intelligent people!

Don't have to replace it, just cut it's hours to daytime only so:

channel 19: UKTV History replaces BrightIdeas (12 hour slot)
channel 12: UKTV Gold (24 hours)

I'd have to agree on your thinking...

Or even better, replace FTN and BrightIdeas with UK Gold. Doubt many people would miss either.

I can see where you're coming from and I agree, to an extent, I'm finding History harder and harder watch lately. I think they have two major flaws.
1. WAY too many repeats, if you've been watching freeview from the beginning then you'll have seen most of it already.
and
2. When they do get something new thy just do it to absolute death, ala Dibnah, now I like Fred but enoughs enough.
BTW I also have TUTV and I have to say Discovery's even worse.

All true, but this doesn't just apply to UKTV History. E4 endlessly regurgitates episodes of Friends, Sky One seems to have The Simpsons on a continuous loop and Ftn showed every episode of Dilbert at least 10 times. The Unforgiven is on TCM tonight - a great film but TCM must have worn their copy out they've shown it so often.

Lets face it there just aren't enough programmes to go around. If you want multi-channel TV you are just going to have to put up with multiple repeats.

This was one of the main reasons I ended up dropping TUTV. Very annoying having the programmes I wanted to see restricted to Sky's expensive packages so UKTV Gold could be turned into a BBC One timeshift channel.

Tutv

Not sure on this-I know legally they are OK but ethically this stinks
All the UK TV channels use BBC programming-paid for by TV license fees in the past and now these programs are transmitted at a charge (And loads of adverts) where a lot of people who paid for them cant afford the subscriptions to sky-they should all be on freeview never mind tutv. The BBC want to put license fees up too!

If there is a thread on this before apologys-new to the site.

It costs money to repeat a programme; the actors all get fees from repeats.

It's not neccessarily financially sound to run a schedule of 24/7 (usually) repeats FTA.

Repeats are cheaper than new programming though surely

They are, but that doesn't make them cheap. It's only fairly recently the BBC themselves have been able to repeat their old drama catalogue in daytime without it being prohibitively expensive.

It's not really anything to do with TUTV this recent shift of programming between the channels.

UKTV G2 seems to show programmes from UKTV People now (neither of which is on TUTV).

I think UKTV is just desperate to find something to put on.

Just saw a trailor for what's coming up tomorrow night, and interestingly they were using the music and tag line BBC Three uses, or used..."Three is the magic number"
