Vic Reeves - Not Funny Anymore

Saw Vic on 8 Out of 10 Cats and he was an embarrassment, I really felt sorry for him he was that bad.

I think there must be an age you reach where you're not funny anymore like what happened to John Cleese and Steve Martin.

Vic retire to your farm and save your dignity.

I concur wholeheartedly. No-one was a bigger fan of Vic Reeves Big Night Out, but unfortunately that seems to have been the pinnacle of his career. He has done many funny things since, but not in the same league, and I agree that he has not lost his funny bones altogether.

I have also thought for a while, that he can only be funny with Bob. Without Bob Mortimer, he's just Jim.

Funny anymore ?

He never was. Bob's the funny man and Matt and Les were funnier too.

I saw him on 8 out of 10 cats, and i cringed hugely.

He was as funny as a dose of thrush. All the other 'guests' looked like they wanted to shut him up too.

I only ever really liked him on Shooting Stars. I dont think he has evolved too well and is still stuck in that anarchic early 90's era.

Vic Reeves = hasbeen.

He was a prat on 'I'm a washed-up celebrity, get me out of here' and he was a prat when he ate at Hell's Kitchen (first series). Gordon Ramsay ought to have levelled him.

Never thought either Reeves or Mortimer were any good.

Very very poor copies of Morecambe and Wise (or tried to be)

Big Night Out, The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer and early series of Shooting Stars were genius. He has lost it a bit, but those shows were hugely influential on a range of comedians, and are underrated by most people.

Enjoyed his episode of "Who Do You Think You Are?" a great deal. "Ask your children who I am" he said to one distant relation who'd never heard of him.

Was referred to by his real name of Jim Moir all the way through - and lost his father shortly after making the programme.

Thought this was on old (very old) thread that had been dumped.

Can't believe anyone has only just realised he never was funny.

the dislike doesnt surprise me he's one of those comedians with a distinct style. If you look over the shows done you'll find bob is the more talented one, however some of the Vic stuff on Big Night Out had me in stitches. That said Monkey Trousers wasnt that funny, Catterick had its moments but the characters of Chris and Carl were infinately funnier on "The Club", and he now seems to be more interested in promoting the career of his wife.

However Smell of Reeves and Mortimer is still IMO one of the funniest things to be broadcast. Just a shame we dont have the same quality from him today

I think some comedians just move their career into different directions with time, I don't think it has anything to do with age as the OP mentioned. Some of my favourite comedians are the more mature folk. Anyone who listens to radio comedy may agree. Barry Cryer is fabulously sharp and witty as is Jeremy Hardy (though not 'old' as such but has been going for yonks). I saw Jack Dee not too long ago and although he is moving more towards acting, he is still a fine stand-up.

I've never really been into surrealism but I guess it's hard to continue in that vein after a while. Probably too physical for one thing! Give radio a try - it's spawned some of the most popular TV comedy.
