Sky HD Box network port

The Sky Box comes with a network port and USB port, has anyone used these ports, if so what for?

Also does anyone know if it is possible to link this up to a computer?

Thanks

You might try searching the forums before you ask the same question as has already been asked many times!.

However, the answer is still the same, the ports are currently disabled - there's no suggestion from Sky when (or if?) they may be turned on.

The only suggestions I have heard, is that the USB2 ports are intended to transfer programmes to a future portable video player, and that the Sata port is likely to be enabled 'reasonably soon' so you can add a larger external hard drive.

Thanks for the response Nigel. I don't visit here very often and was unaware that this had been discussed many times, sorry!

And Motorola Razr V3 mobile phones

I highly doubt that Sky will enable the SATA just to allow extra capacity unless it was for their own make of HDD module.. and the USB2 was intended for a future Sky branded video Ipod.. dont know where that is in the scheme of things now...

The Cat5 port is for downloading of video on demand when the service starts in a few months.

May I make a suggestion on what the Ethernet port might be used for.

If you have multiroom and a home network, this port could be used to enable you to watch your saved programmes in your planner in more than one room, which would be a very useful addition.

Also another option would be for Sky to develop a USB wireless adapter, similar to the one designed by Microsoft for their Xbox 360, to enable the same above situation, only without wires.

It's not going to happen - the port will be used for SkyPlayer (in the reasonably near future), and that's probably it.
