Top of the Pops

Does anyone else here wish that Top of the Pops would come back?

It has been recommisioned as a sort of TOTP 2 with a bit of chart stuff in there, and for the Christmas charts... Or so I read...

Not as it was, as it was a shadow of its old self and pretty poor. TOTP 2 has 2 new performances a week so is worth a watch if you want to see the chart, but of course its not like the original.

I have a feeling the old TOTP will be back one day but give it a chance its not been off long enough yet.

I can't see TOTP being the same again, but it would be nice to watch something decent on a Sunday. Or Friday... They shouldn't have relegated from BBC1 on a Friday to BBC 2 on a Sunday...

The audience wasnt there on a Friday though. In my opinion it should never have been relegated from 7pm on a Thursday BBC 1.

Yes, but in a different form. TOTP could be picked up by BBC Three and developed more as a youth culture programme. I'd like to see more features about gigs and new bands, behind the scenes, and maybe a "where are they now" feature about bands and singers who are no longer in the limelight. This would be an antidote to the predictable and repetitive video jukebox channels.

I reckon TOTP should have been left for people older than teenagers to enjoy. There are whole channels devoted to all types of 'youth culture', whilst us older music fans have not much at all. I'm not talking old fogeys music here, just stuff that isn't about shooting, calling women 'ho's' and has a bit of a tune to it. TOTP2 is OK but it always seems like a repeat to me, as if they can't really be bothered. If it wasn't for BBC3 there wouldn't be much worth watching anyway, IMO.

Whoah!!!

I'm 22, and I suppose I'm classed as youth, but I don't listen to stuff like that, and I'm sure none of my mates do. I think you're being a bit of an old fogey

Stereotype much? I'm 19 and I hate music like that. In fact I hate the charts at the moment because there are hardly any refreshingly new sounds in it these days...

I'd rather watch TOTP2. I prefer the mainly archive stuff with the odd recent live performance (except for horrible Jamelia on Saturday's show).

I think they should still do an annual Christmas TOTP special.

I never meant people of late teens or early 20's, who seem to have better taste, but I meant kids of about 14, who seem to listen to gangsta junk in order to look 'hard'. Just because they went off watching TOTP, the BBC killed it off. These kids don't pay the license fee anyway, so change TOTP and make it for people who do want to watch it, who may be a bit older, and with different music.

Yes, if only to see David Hasselhoff on it.
