Hayley Cropper's sense of humour

I LOVE it when Hayley says a terrible pun or joke and has a fit of laughter or she's over laughs at something unfunny....so cute

Her and Roy have the best on screen partnership in any soap. So odd, so loveable, but SOOO good together!

She is funny - only the other week she commented on how nice Emily's cardigan was.

I agree about Hayley. Terrific character.

I notice that US TV are today trying to wrestle from her the claim to be TV soaps first transsexual character.

Apparently, ABC are suggesting they have a TV first for their 'daring' new storyline in 'All My Children' which will follow the life of such a character.

Er, not quite by around 8 years!

But I dare say since Corrie is British it does not count across the pond.

Whilst this is most likely the case, is it possible that there bringing in an actual transexual actor/actress (Sorry im not sure which itd be ) to play the part?

Hayley Cropper is one of Coronation Street's finest characters at the moment; played by and equally fine actress in Julie Hesmondhalgh.

I just get a bit upset that she (along with Sally & Fiz) is the only one of the factory girls to actually have a personality. Only a couple of years ago the factory girls were the best grouping in Coronation Street, now they do nothing.

I feel a thread coming on!

Feel free; your comment is quite interesting. I do get the sense the factory girls have lost their way a bit.

Don't think so, but the point being made seems to be the idea that the actual storyline is original.

Check out tvtattle.com (a good source for day by day US TV stories) and follow their link to Fox (?) for this report.

There is a photo of the actor who is playing the part of a flamboyant rock star called Zarf, or something!

He is a pretty looking guy, but has an androgynous face that could pull off the storyline. However, he seems to be saying that he feels the huge responsibility for doing the right thing by the transgender community - almost word for word what I seem to recall Julie Hesmodhalgh saying when she got the part.

Most likely ABC have never heard of Coronation Street (or posibly Britain)

Last night - when she trotted into Liams office...she's so funny. Another scene which cracked me up was Roy and Hayley getting on the bus and it moved away before they'd sat down...they both went tumbling down the aisle
Hayley is one of my all time fave Corrie characters

I completely agree with you there. I seem to think the reason might be because the factory used to be more of a self-contained family. Whatever the girls thought of mike baldwin, he was the head of the empire, an empire they all felt connected to.

More recently, it is run by danny and liam/paul. They aren't family, had no connection to eachother, and liam/paul don't even live in the street.

Given the above, the factory girls are gonna feel no sense of 'belonging', if the factory lacks a glue needs to bond them all together.

Just my opinion, take it or leave it

Actually under the Gender Recognition Act passed a few years ago, Hayley should now be able to apply for full legal status as a woman, and therefore Roy and Hayley would be eligible to marry rather than register a civil partnership.

I'm surprised Corrie missed the trick when the Act went through, as it would have been a really good storyline to have the process of going before a Gender Recognition Panel and being able to re-marry legally.

I have to agree with you all, Hayley is a wonderful character and her on screen partnership with Roy is one of the best partnerships in soap. Roy and Hayley are both so funny together, and i also like the fact that Hayley being a transvestite isn't constantly mentioned when she's on screen. When she first arrived, the issue was obviously gonna arise but i am glad Corrie has used her as a comical character and paired her up with Roy, instead of just revolving her storylines around her being a transvestite. I hope Hayley stays in the Street for many years to come!

I love Hayley as well. I remember being in a bad mood and then Hayley Cropper popped into my head and made me laugh. I think I watch too much Corrie.

That would probably be because she isn't a transvestite...the actress is a woman, and the character is a transwoman. No crossdressing involved at all...

Then maybe you should find out the difference; if you were to commit such a faux pas face to face with some of the people I know, you'd get a bloody nose...
