Virgin Media VIP Pack

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last night I switched to the new Virgin Media VIP Pack. For £85 a month you get

Talk Unlimited (24 hour calling)
Talk International (cheap international calls)
Talk Mobile (Cheap mobile calls)
Broadband Size: XL (10Mb)
TV Size: XL (Family/Supreme Pack)
All Sky Sports (1,2,3,Extra)/Movies (1-9/10)
V+ HD Box (TV Drive)
Second standard STB

Basically I had all of that but the phone deals, movies and sport and was actually paying just over 90 quid a month. So I now get the cheap phone deals and sports and movies for less money

I did ask the charming lady on the phone if I could save any money by dropping the sports and movies but she insisted the package was what it was and was in no way flexible.

Its a 'soft launch' so not been advertised but if you want it, give NTL / Telewest / Virgin a call and they'll let you have it.

My contract expires next month and I hope to get offered a good deal to stay otherwise I'll be switching to BT and Sky+. For £65 p/month I can get the full Sky viewing package, Sky+, BT evening and weekends and the top Sky broadband package. All that for only £5 more p/month than I currently pay TW for alot less.

Brilliant news. Just upgrading now.

Upgrading from 4x to 10x broadband + Sky movies & Sport at no extra cost. I love Virgin Media already...

So do you pay under 85 quid now, or over 85 quid?

Curious.

I would love to upgrade just for the HD box and 10meg broadband

I was paying 87.75 but that included caller display (whick I still have to pay extra for), so to be precise I'm paying £1 less for faster internet (4mb to 10mb) plus all those Sky movie & sports channels. Bargain

I hate to be a spoiler for good news but this package is available (albeit you need to purchase the box itself, Sky+ £99 and Sky HD £299) on Sky and is better value for money:

Sky World (all channels incl. Sports/Movies): £43.50
Up to 16meg broadband(I know, due to distance from exchange/line quality): £10
SkyTalk Unlimited (which includes calls to top 10 international destinations and UK landline calls):£5
Sky+ subscription: £FREE
HD subscription (all HD channels):£10
Extra STB:£10

Line rental to BT(will soon be Sky line rental for £9):£11

In total that amounts to £89.50 for Sky and tbh, it may be a discounted VIP package but it aint a far superior product

Let's face it, you don't get ANY HD conrtent in that, if you take Sky+ instead then you pay £79.50 - CHEAPER!
This is as close as LIKE for LIKE you will get on comparisons!

EDIT: What would be a fairer deal and may pull Sky customer's and cable customer's to it, is to give the tvDrive (v+ box) service with FREE subscription until they have a decent level of HD channels and programming.

Or an option of just PVR on V+
Then upgraded subscription of PVR & HD

But in all fairness, your explination of prices shows SKY is NOT cheaper as you have £99 for the box (share box price over 12 months thats £8.25 extra per month on top of the £79.50 you quoted) so SKY would be £87.75 month!!!!!!!

Not true ---- agreed, it's not a lot at the moment, but hopefuly that will change.

£89.50 is £4.50 dearer / month and then you have to spread the £299 for the Sky box over the period plus any maintenance contract you may want ---- any repair to a telewest box is free for the lifetime.

The big thing for me is the rock solid broadband from cable. Now Sky may be just as stable --- hope it is ----- but I know cable is.

The cable package is cheaper ----- it's how important HD content is and trying to guess when cable will get more. You pays your money and you make your choice....

Yes, that's an old Telewest trick, counting hardware into the first year costs. Difference is, though, that when you buy the hardware, it's yours to use in any way you want - like for picking up the free channels.. or you could easily sell it on eBay and get pretty much all of your money back. Whereas on cable all the money you pay each month for that 'free' set top box is wasted, and the box is taken away when you cancel.

BT had the right idea when they used to run the cable system in Milton Keynes - they offered you the option to buy your cable box, and they'd knock your monthly bill down if you did. It was worth doing, the saving was pretty substantial - something like £8/month I think.

And just another thing, why would you want to come into a cable forum to push SKY? Do you not think people who want to explore and compare the Sky option are capable of finding that information out for themselves? Just curious.
