Virgin retentions deals

Seen a few thread on various forums, the gist of it is to call the retentions line (0800 073 0591) NOT customer service even if you are not at the end of your first years contract. Some of the deals are unbelievable! I will be phoning tomorrow as I though I was not paying a lot:

Phone: M
TV: V+ with XL
Broadband: M
£50

I was wrong!!

The deals I have seen:

Phone: XL
TV: V+ with XL + all sports and movies + extra STB
Broadband: L
£60

Phone: M
TV: V+ with XL
Broadband: M
£40

Phone: XL + talk mobile
TV: V+ with XL
Broadband: M
£48.20

Phone: M
TV: V+ with XL + all sports and movies
Broadband: L
£52.50

We're on:

TV: XL + Extra STB + V+, no premium channels
Broadband: L
Phone: M

for £66 per month

Is it worth ringing retentions (or CS?) to see if there is a better deal? Wouldn't mind either XL broadband or Movies/Sports... but its a bit high already

Broadand medium (2 MB)

and telephone XL (Talk unlimited ) I am paying £55.00

Aparently this already includes a discount of £8.50 that i was unare of. - Idont particularly need the extra features of the V+ box at this moment and dont want to pay more for extra broadband speed but with the deal i have now is there any extra discounts i can receive

So people are getting these types of deals and are in contract still? I just assumed people were doing it when they were out of contract!

that sounds like you're in the right ballpark for a deal - we had the same, plus the v+ for £65.

added sky movies, setanta, and up to 4meg for a total of £72.

i think if you ring, explain that your ideal package would be cheaper on sky, and are prepared to carry on paying about the same, they'll give you extras at a reduced rate, perhaps more readily than they'll knock much off your existing bill.

Was you still under contract at the time you rang up? or had it expired?

thanks for that i rang the retentions and as long as i dont reduce the packages i have (can increase broadband in future if i want) I now have it at £34.95

when i rang I spoke to a lovely girl called frances who also explained that virgin central is NOT an on demand channel but similar to living tv with british and american comedies and drama, she also let it slip that Virgin are in the process of producing other channels (some may be exclusive to V+ box customers only and some HD only) and they are in talks with other channels that are on sky to join the virgin media network. - So heres to excellent service £20.00 off for nothing less and possibly additional channels to come. With the option of increasing if needed (at a discounted rate also)

oh and i wasnt out of contract also.

we've been with them for about 5.5 years - i presume the initial contract ran out after 12 months, and from then on it's been month by month.

I was paying £80 for:
Phone (assume it's a bog standard deal, never use it really)
4MB BB
TV (not V+) All channels plus sports and movies

Rang retentions a few weeks ago and got it down to £59 a month.

How can there be so many deals with different prices? Sounds like they make it up as they go along..

Will they be able to do anything if you say a friend of mine got this deal, and I was wondering if you could put me onto the same package and then just quoting one of the retentions deals offered here? Or do you have to actually have to say your leaving?

That last deal sounds toooooo good to be true.

Im looking for a deal that enhances what I have already.

I have

BB - L
TV - XL
Phone - M

All for £ 44 pm

I dont really want to step down my broadband which I think is where the problem lies.

I dont want the sports, movies or anything like that, just what I have above maybe with a V+ box & my phone put up to L ALL for around the £50 pm mark AM I ASKING TOOO MUCH.

Interesting chat with CS - usual bounce, bounce between departments..

Rang up on number given here (apparently is a TW call centre) to be told I was on the old billing system and they couldn't help. Transferred through to a local office

The agent told me that he couldn't do much for me but advised me that the best thing to do would be to research a sky package thats similar and then ring up the retentions team and tell them I was thinking of leaving. Unfortunately, the hold facility seemed to be broke so I just selected give me a callback...

Just to add to this, they've offered me the following:

TV: XL, V+ and Movies
Phone: Talk Weekends & Evenings
BB: Large

for £53 a month - was previously £66 without the movie channels

Result!

with sky their offer is up to 16mb bb, sky+, xtra STB, and even & wkend calls for 61.50 not that i wanna go with them

When I phoned I just said that I had seen other offers at XXX and XXX and would they be able to match the offer and they did. I never mentioned i wanted to leave or give me this or I am off.

She then asked me about my TV viewing habits so mentioned a few channels that i knew were in the XL package.

Said i did a bit of downloading but not much and that i really wanted to keep the Anytime 400 phone package.

My advice is write down what they say as she bombarded me with about 4 different offers which confused the hell out of me until i had them written down like they are set out on this forum!

If you don't want to accept the offer right away take the operators name and tell them you will call them back.
