What's the point for soap charthers to leave for the actress to have a baby?

With Leeanne coming back to Corrie soon after Jane Danson's baby, What is really the point for the chracther to leave the show for the actress to have her baby? She could have stayed in the Street but not seen cause the actress is off.

EastEnders have had that too with Kacey and Jessie Wallace when they had their babies. Charthers have to be off their homes for them to have babies in real life. Wouldn't be better if they stayed at their home and read a book or watch TV instead of going away elsewhere.

Should we give the next charather a relalistic thing when the actress is on mantility leave?

I agree, the characters could even have a baby themselves. The whole 2004 fiasco with EE was partly down to Kacey and other Big names having to take time off becuase of their private lives. - though it could not have been avoided.

Sometimes the actresses are really dedicated and stay on throughout, like Lisa staying in FRIENDS and Phoebe having babies whilst having her baby, it could be done more I think. Lots of people say Jennifer Aniston could have coincided having a baby which she wanted with Rachel having Emma but she didnt

That's a good point when you consider Lloyd in Corrie hasn't been seen for over 6 months because Craig Charles was suspended. And no one has commented on the fact he disappeared with no explanation and hasn't been seen even though he part owns the taxi business!
And of course Dev in Corrie also disappeared for months when HE was suspended for the same reason - drugs. Dev owns the corner shop but again there was no mention of him not being seen for months!

Sally in Corrie was similar in 1994 in that she was pregnant in real life and on the show. When she had baby Sophie on screen, she was still pregnant in real life! About 7 or 8 months pregnant. I remember she was seen in big jumpers for a while until - how convenient! - Sally's mum was at death's door and could do nothing for herself, not wash herself or go to the bathroom, totally helpless after a stroke, so Sal took herself off to Scarborough to look after her for a few months, leaving Kev to have an affair with Natalie!

I remember there were comments a few months after Sally returned and she went to see her Mum after finding out about the affair, and it was commented her mum looked like she'd never been ill a day in her life, considering a few months before she'd been totally helpless and needed help to be fed! Talk about a miraculous recover!

I think they could work it with ....

Bernice demanding to see some time of her daughter, Ashley and Laurel take her off to visit Bernice but Ashley has to return but Laurel asks him to stay out there but by the time she is due to return she is to far gone to fly, so she has to stay away. Also babies can only fly at a certain age can't they? So she would need to stay away for a while longer and we can see Ashley, Jasmine and Sandy fly over to visit and then return and take another trip until she returns.

Very realistic - most new mums can't get into their clothes for a while, and end up wearing baggy jumpers!
