Dance music fans- Squirt.fm

Does anyone know what this station is all about? They claim to be launching on digital platforms across the UK. Was listening to the station last night on the web and it sounds quite up-beat and fresh, with no annoying R & B mixed in.

I welcome any dance station especially one which has less R & B mixed in.

Just tuning in now for a listen. Sounds good so far!

Well the name might be rubbish, but I'm far more interested in the content - and the music is absolutely terrific from what I've heard so far.

They're part of something called the SQR Media Group based in London EC1 at an address occupied by seemingly dozens of other companies. Their web site has some unusual turns of phrase ("broadcasted") and has an oddly corporate appearance for an online yoof media group. Just... hmm.

Well I can see what the earlier poster means about poor grammar/spelling on the website:

Quote:
The station offers it's listeners one of the most popular interactive features, automated text requests and engages with unmissiable features, competitions and essential news. squirt.fm will be broadcasted across the UK over the web, soon launching onto the Digital TV Platforms, DAB Network and 3G mobile handsets.
Not the most professional of company websites

I wonder if Squirt will have live presenters?

I have enjoyed it so far apart from the name and website.

It offers a much better mix of music than the likes of Galaxy or Kiss during the day.

Station News...

As part of our on-going commitment and rapid listener growth, squirt.fm is now broadcasting on the A2 satellite platform which can be accessed in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Eastern coast of North America. At present, we face a growing demand for the digital TV and data transmission in the Western hemisphere which we will be soon expanding onto SKY and 3G mobile networks. Please check back for further updates. Our website is nearly complete, which has taken longer than anticipated.

squirt.fm attracted more than 12,000 listeners on it's first day which exceeded our expectations. Due to the high demand the squirt.fm website is currently being transferred onto some new different servers and is not accessible during this transition.
Odd how they only seem to have a 25 slot shoutcast server I would have thought they would have had a little more than 25 slots, don't know what their WMP servers are though.

Very interesting indeed. i think their WMP servers must be streaming to other sources and i don't understand why all of that is hidden, 12000 listeners must be to be true in some form to publise that information. good concept though, looks like they want to grab peoples attention with a name like that!

The web stream is now down and the website is offline. I thought they were launching on Sky?

Good station when I listened, sad if it's been pulled.

Fresh FM from the Netherlands is a good replacement for dance music fans.
I've known squirt go down before.

Anyone got any idea whats happened to Squirt.fm?
I presume now from the long period they've been down that a return isn't likely now.

They are still running! They are listed on the real.com website and i've been listening to them for quite a while now... I believe they have been moving offices building an in-house structure for the SKY launch and DAB, the company that runs the station have been in the news with positive stuff as they are also in TV production aswell!

Here is the link if you can't find them on Real.com

http://uk.real.com/music/radio/uk/

I think their site launch is on 13th November!

Just an update, Squirt FM, seems to be "launching" 1st September!

Not sure what the last year or so has been all about, when looking at the various dates of the posts belonging in this thread.

More info at http://www.squirt.fm/.

The station stream is

Yeah I see what you mean by the various posts.... It says on that link you sent they have been on an 'extended test broadcast', perhaps they want to get everything right before properly launched!

Thoughts?

They seem to be launching this autumn now....looks promising as they have a music on demand service that they have released to the public until the end of the month, first for a radio station.....
