Women only - 'Yasmin' Combined Pill?
I'm looking for some advice on Yasmin, as I'm considering going to my GP and asking whether I could try it out.
I was taking Dianette for about 5 years, but my GP took me off it around this time last year as I was ill for about 3 weeks with what he thought to be a migraine (I however think it was something else) and consequently, he took me off Dianette immediately. I have always sufferered with problem skin (I'm 23 this year), and I was originally put on Dianette to try and control this, more so than to use it as a contraceptive. It did the job, and my skin problems were much less and I was happy with taking it. Since having stopped taking it, my skin problems have returned though, and I'm desperate to get them sorted again. I've tried all the over-the-counter remedies you can think of, brand names, etc... and I use Clinique mainly, which I've found to be the "best", even though I still have problems with breakouts and very oily skin. My GP has said he wouldn't put me back on Dianette again, as he wouldn't want to risk me getting as unwell as I did this time last year, but I was thinking about maybe asking about Yasmin instead? I was just wondering if anyone here had been on it/is on it/etc.. or whether you just have any advice. Thanks in advance.

Hi, i tried Yasmin but it turned me into a monster, every pill i have been on though has given me terrible mood swings. Have at look at this forum sticky about the pill, i found it quite helpful and i do remember seeing a lot of posts about Yasmin. Hope it helps!

I find Yasmin and Dianette to be much the same, I've swapped between the two in 6-9 month bursts for 4 and a half years. I am now having a break off the pill as my mum kept having a go that the doctor would take me off when she realised how long id been on it (as im at uni so see both uni and home doc) so I should take a break.. and my skins SO oily and i keep getting little rash like spots aswell as big spots.. its doing my head in and I havent even been off it a month.
I prefer Yasmin over Dianette and doctors dont like prescribing Dianette because it isnt as safe or as well tested as the other pills available or something along those lines. My doctor would never let me be on it more than 6 months at a time. |

I tried Yasmin and lasted only 3 months. I had terrible headaches that were almost constant, my vision played up, bloating and complete loss of sex drive. Since i went off it, I have had none of these problems. Just didn't agree with me.
OH and I agreed that no contraception is the best way for us. I hope that everything works out well for you!! |

I've been on Yasmin for nearly 4 years and not had any problem with it. I very rarely get spots (i'll get a break out now)
It all depends on your body with relation on how you'll react to it. I went on one called Cilest for 6 months and it turned me into a mega b!tch and left me feeling sick all the time but i know people who have been fine with it. |

I was on dianette for about 9 months (16 years old) - for a skin problem, and period pains - not for contraception. My GP took me off it after these 9 months because he said you shouldn't really be on it for more than 6 months - what a load of crap. If people have been on it for years. I was on roaccutane for a while, never had problems with it. I went for check-ups at the doctor every so often on dianette to check my blood pressure.. which was alway fine - WHY TAKE ME OFF IT?
I've never had yasmin but may ask about it next time i vist the doctor. |

I've been on Yasmin for about 6 months, and so far have had no problems at all. I had slightly bad skin which seems to have cleared up (don't know if it's because of yasmin though)
I think it's different for everyone though, my friend was on Yasmin and gained weight and had horrible moodswings. |

I really don't agree with the pill.
The Pill has probs led to the increase of STIs and STDs. |

Thanks everyone for your replies
![]() I realise that everyone is going to react differently to whichever pill you take, so just because Yasmin may work brilliantly for one person, doesn't mean it'll work for me. I have read more positive things surrounding it, compared to negative things though. I've also been looking at Marvelon, has anyone tried that before? |

I tried Yasmin when I first started the pill and although I've suffered with PMS since I started my periods, Yasmin made it an awful lot worse, so much so that I don't think I lasted more than a few months.
I've been on microgynon for 5 years (will have to take a break soon) and I've not had many problems with it, but remember how lousy I felt on Yasmin, I wouldn't take it again. Still ,every woman is different and you have to try different pills to find one to suit you. |

From what I've been told, Yasmin and Dianette are pretty much drug sisters. My experience wasn't like yours, I've been on Dianette twice for PCOS and it caused horrible depression after a few months I didn't relate to the drug, I remember a long running thread on here about the same.
The rule of thumb really is that one drug works for one person and doesn't for another in pills like these. It's always worth a chat, if your GP doesn't agree, ask for a referral to dermatology. |

Personally I think the pill is one of the greatest inventions of last century. I don't see why so many people (usually the type who appear on the Jeremy Kyle show) get pregnant accidentally and why Britain has such a high rate of teenage mother hood, when there is absolutley no need for this to happen. |

As I said before, lax sexual morales and not taking care of their sexual health.
I see what you're saying (people only think of condoms as contraception, not protection) but all the same, the pill cannot CAUSE people to get STDs or STIs. Any sensible woman/man sleeping with a stranger would use a condom, whether they are on the pill or not. If people are stupid enough to gamble with their health, then that's their fault. With all these family planning clinics doleing out free condoms, there's no excuse to 'get' anything. |
