Star Wars Sundays

Trust ITV to postpone it next week for DARTS! -_-

Anyone know if Star Wars Ep III is going to be shown? I doubt it because they haven't been showing any of it in the trailer.

No offence but you'd have to be mad to watch a Star Wars film on ITV.

Yes, the commercials are pretty insane, it's a good thing for Freeviewers though, all the Star Wars films.

I think if they were going to show Episode III then they would keep it for Christmas time.So they had some Blockbuster film for Christmas showing.

*coughs* Haven't these people ever heard of DVD's?

Plus the 2004 DVD's while not perfect, and not the originals, are superior to the 1997 versions. The transfers alone, blow them away.

Absolutely.

I can't enjoy any Star Wars films on SKY Movies, let alone broadcast by Ignorant Tedious Vultures. Even the fantastic looking HD broadcasts couldn't win me over. I can't stand the 4% speedup that you get due to the UK's PAL system that leads to the speed and pitch of the soundtrack rising. 99% Of my collection and all of my favourite films are US NTSC R1, at the correct speed. It's an acceptable flaw for some people/the others don't notice it, or even care, but for someone like myself, it drives me crazy. I haven't watched a US show or film broadcast on Television for years.

I bought my 9-year old niece "High School Musical 2" on US R1 DVD. She owns the Soundtrack too, and plays it to death. She happened to catch it shortly after on the Disney Channel one day, and straight a way asked me why all the songs were suddenly playing faster. Says it all really.

Like has been said, i think that ITV will wait until early/mid December before resuming showing the Star Wars films so that they can show Episode III on Christmas Eve.

"You haven't heard Darth Vader.... till you have heard him at the correct speed and pitch"

James Earl Jones sounds ever silly and much less menacing when spedup.

I think it's lovely to see the SW films on TV again, even if it is on ITV and riddled with ads. I'm a huge fan and have all the DVD's, and it's kinda fun to see the 1997 SE's again. I've not watched them since getting rid of my video collection years ago. Funny to see the original Playstation Jabba in Star Wars! But the SW films will always cause a stand-still (or sit-still anyway) in our house. Always good value for money.

Was going to watch Phantom Menace on DVD this week (I'm a huge fan), but I think I'll watch it on TV next Sunday (or whenever they show it). Sadly for the more geeky members of these forums, I'm a bit of a prequel trilogy fan too. Those of you who haven't seen Revenge of the Sith yet are in for a real treat - it's easily up there with the best SW films. Hopefully ITV will be screening this one for Christmas.

That shot of the Millenium Falcon swooping under the Medical Frigate never gets old.
Its cool in just about every way.

And of course Leia in that outfit...for many boys that created a strange feeling.

The less said about Chewie's cringe-making tarzan impression the better, however.

Personally i don't even notice this "speeding up" that you mention. You must have bat-like hearing.

I've always branded "The Asteroid Field" sequence in The Empire Strikes Back as the best of the original trilogy. The Falcon swooping across the screen is just superb, truly magical movie making.

As for the prequel trilogy, it has to be "Anakin vs. Obi-Wan" an amazing lightsaber spectacle. To be honest though, Revenge of the Sith is the only film of the prequels I actually really enjoyed. The Phantom Menace is just too slow and Jar-Jar is hugely annoying, to name a few. As for Attack of the Clones, outside of the amazing action sequences the film is a complete dud. Titanic has a better script, lol. Every night in my dreams.... OK, I'll stop now.

Yep, unfortunately I do. I am cursed with absolute pitch. Probably the fact that outside of my critic fatigue I am also a musician.

CJ if you would like to hear a comparison, I can put some up for you. Bare in mind though, once you hear the speedup, that's it... no going back, lol.

Good answer. Trust me, it's a nightmare if you have a good ear like myself. I only ever started getting R1 discs in the first place because I couldn't stand songs and score in films spedup. I'm also a Soundtrack enthusiast. Once you get them though and watch them for many, many years at the correct speed, you notice the entire difference. As I said, it's the whole audio track that is spedup.

A 4% speed increase is 70.7% rise in pitch of one semitone. In musical terms, that's basically going from C to C-flat. C-flat is 3% away from being D. There is no C-flat on a piano scale, and with good reason. Try playing Axel F from Beverly Hills Cop on a piano with the UK R2 DVD as your guide. You won't be able to match it.

Watched ROTJ tonight on ITV1, and somethign wasn;t quite right with it, especially at the end - not sure if the editiing bods at ITV have been playing games.

/star wars geek hat on/

This (as with Star Wars and 'Empire' the previous sundays) was the last 'Special Edition' release of the film(s), with added new footage, and visual 'enhancements'.

However, in 'Jedi' tonight, we had the new song in Jabba's palace, the new scenes of galactic jubulation at the death of the empror, and new Ewok song at the end. BUT.... when Luke turned to see the Ghosts of Obi Wan and Yoda, the one that joined them was of Sebastian Shaw.. NOT Hayden Christiansen (sp.).

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the new songs and footage come in the last batch of edits/releaseas, when Lucas also added Hayden in place of Shaw at the end?

I can't remember a version that had the extra bits, with Shaw at the end.

Am I wrong, or has someone at ITV added the old ending shot onto the special edition film???

/star wars geek hat off/

Thats because they are the 1997 special editions which were shown in the cinemas and released on VHS, not the recent DVD versions.

Episode 3 DVD was released in 2005 but the OT(Lowry digital remasters) were released in 2004(which changed Anakin's force ghost from sebastian shaw to hayden christensen) to bring the OT and the PT together

Ah so they are actually going to show the other trilogy. After seeing the trailers for the Star Wras series on ITV, which included shots from the more recent trilogy, I was very disappointed to find there was no Star Wars next sunday. Of course I could always accquire all three episodes elsewhere, but I don't mind ads (they make for good toilet/drink-refill breaks) so it is more convenient to watch them live.

I cant watch SW on ITV as they insist on zooming it up to 1.85:1 from 2.35:1, why can't they just show it on the correct format, even if 4:3 viewers will have to deal with big black bars....
