Ebc (english Broadcasting Corporation)
Heard this on Breakfast this morning but it is so true, The beeb focuses more on England than any other country, Scotland, Wales and NI need not exsist. The England match the other night was the best I ever heard and I am glad they got beat for that reason, they didn't mention Scotland or Northern Irelands efforts its all England England England,
Whats your thoughts? |

They did as far as I remember mention NI and Wales who were also on the red button plus (I think) available terrestrially in the respective nations, where those interested would be watching anyway. Also surely population sizes help dictate the level of coverage. England being the largest nation should get proportionally more coverage. |

They do exist in the eyes of the BBC and each of the 3 'nations' has a very large BBC department producing programmes, mucking up your schedules and making continuity announcements in diffrent accents!

Thoughts? I think that you just surrendered any moral high ground with that statement.

Football Focus today was a perfect case in point. 50 mins of England, then a quick montage of David Healy goals (if any England player had scored 13 in a single qualifying campaign we'd never have heard the end of it), then an interview with Paul Hartley. No discussion of the speculation surrounding Alex McLeish, no discussion of what's gone wrong with Welsh football or what is starting to go right with NI football. England may be by far the largest country in the UK, but to ignore the other 3 nations is to treat them as 2nd class citizens in their own country and forcing them to pay for it via the telly tax is frankly insulting. |

Yeah, where were BBC Scotland when the Scottish National team footy home rights and away fixture rights were up for purchase? It's obvious that the BBC as a whole concentrates more on the English based audience and while that audience generates by far the higher revenues than other regions in Great Britain there are times you have to question the funding especially for obvious lapses when they have or don't have big sporting events which are not represented by the UK/GB as a whole. The again regardless of the real world truths there are those that will see conspiracy and an organised move to disenfranchise one group at every turn. That said BBC Cardiff is perhaps the best known UK production centre globally atm thanks to Dr Who and Torchwood

England may be the biggest nation, but that is no excuse to ignore the other three Five Live sounded like BBC Radio England the other day, yakking on endlessly about the England manager sacking, and to be honest, that's just not good enough for a national station If i put on the six o'clock news, most of the stories are irrelevant, and they would give a warehouse fire in the proposed Olympic site preference over a more important story in any of the other nations (or the north of England for what it's worth) Also, the clear ignorance and knowledge is shown when people can't even get the names of towns or cities correct, and can't even get regional names correct, choosing to plump for the patronising 'Mr X from Scotland' patter instead. In fact, i've heard several times stories referring to Vicky Hamilton of West Lothian ..... no no no, she was abducted from West Lothian, but was from Falkirk .... show some respect you ignorant so and so's!!! |

They're not forced to pay for it. If the scots, welsh and northern irish want more equal coverage, then they should become independent and set up their own channels. If they feel that strongly about this, why are they happy to remain as a part of Britain and have the same tv channels and radio stations as England? Its about time they made up their minds about what they want. If they tie themselves politically to a much bigger country than the rest of them put together, why are they surprised that the biggest country will get by far the biggest coverage in the media?

It would be great to have exact equality but it would just be tokenism...I tend to feel the balance is ok although sometimes I'd accept talking about England during games that don't concern them is a little OTT. Anyway England (plus the FA Cup) are moving on to Setanta and ITV from next season so don't worry a lot less of your hard earned will be going directly to the FA. |

2) The English Premier League was the first Premier League. Maby thats Why. 3) I may well be wrong here but isnt the SPL run by The SFA so the SPL is just the name of a league not the actual body of the league unlike in England where the Premier League, Football League and The FA are all separate. I may be wrong here, it may be the case the SPL has broken away i dont pay much attention to sottish football so i may be wrong. In short the English Premier League's Body is registered officially as "The Premier League" they are registered under that name. The Name of the Competition they run is registered as the "Barclay's Premier League" so.... if you want to refer to the Premier Leagues Board You should Say "Premier League" as thats what there registered as. If you want to refer to the name of the competition they run you should call it "The Barclay's Premier League" not the English Premier League or the FA Premier League as this is no longer correct. The Scottish Premier League Body is Registered as "The Scottish Premier League" and the name of there league is registered as "Clydesdale Bank Premier League". In short to be correct if you are talking about the English league you should say "Barclay's Premier League" If your talking about the Scottish One you should say "Clydesdale Bank Premier League". Thats If you REALLLLLY want to be correct. saying "Premier League" on its own refers to the Premier League Body In England (NOT THE COMPETITION THEY RUN) as that is there registered name. WOW Epic Long post

No it wasn't. I don't know who was the first football league in the world to do so , but i'm pretty sure that when i was going to Ibrox in the early 80's it was to watch Scottish 'Premier League' games . 'Maby' i'm wrong.

When they changed the setup in the Scottish football league, they created the Premier Division, which still remained part of the SFL. It was called the Premier league by many people on tv, radio, etc, but that was inaccurate. The SPL was only formed by breaking away from the SFL |

Typical person with two chips on their shoulder without the slightest idea of their own country's history, often blaming England for this and that, and in reality not having the slightest clue. I'd advise learning about the history of Scotland, might make those chips disappear.

no the whole point of this is that it was called "SCOTTISH PREMIER" not "PREMIER" you have proven my own point. the debate started with how the SPL is referred to as the SPL and the EPL as the PL.

The FA has completely broken away from the Premier League the Premier League uses FA Rules and standers but the FA has no Right of Governance over the Premier League.
