Virgin absolutely dead

Just had my net go out about 20 minutes ago. Did the unplug-wait30seconds-plugbackin-rebootcomputer shuffle, got absolutely nowhere, the sync light on the modem is flashing and not stopping. And then, finally, call up Virgin's customer service line to find that they're experiencing "technical difficulties".

What's going on? Can anyone shed any light on this?

It looks like a country wide network problem.

The DHCP servers are overloaded atm with people trying to reconnect. I never lost upstream or downstream channels but I had to wait about 10 minutes for it to acquire an IP address.

Same problem in Woking, Surrey 21:20 NTL (now VM) died.

Their 0800 number doesn't work and if you all their main phone number they have a message of 'technical issues' please call back later....

Down in West Herts for last 20mins, has given me a chance to try out the 3.5G modem in my N95, very cool feature.

Thank god I downloaded final episode of Dexter earlier. Phew.

Same here, both faults and customer service lines are both as dead as the broadband. Another power cut?

I'm in Ilford and my broadband is not working. None of the phone lines are working either. I'm only able to post this thanks to the Bluetooth GPRS connection via my mobile.

the reason everyone got disconnected was due to a failed modem update.

Mine was down for a while but now back thank god, but my V+ now has a flashing "online" light that it didnt before and i notice all the VOD stuff now has an error page.

Anyone know if that is connected and if it is solvable at any point in the future? (obviously not gonna try ringing up about it for a day or two considering that 150 and 151 doesnt even ring right now let alone connect lol)

failed modem upgrades happen all the time, probably nothing to worry about.

Forgive me if as an ex-employee with a very bad opinion of VM if I choose to bask in this moment.

Yeah, the on demand is working fine on my V+ now. The online light stopped at the same time at the broadband but it all came back fairly quickly. That's here in Yorkshire anyway (ex TW).
