£250,000 Turnover With 250,000 Customers?

Did that guy that say he has £250,000 turnover with a quarter of a million customers. So his customers pay £1 for his service?

i think it was a £200,000 turnover.

i know a lot of people who turn over that much in a day, and i've done it myself.

bizarre.

When he says he's 'done business' with 250,000 firms, I expect he means they've clicked on his website.........

So they're paying even less than a pound a go? And did he say he had 13 employees? What does he pay them £8k a year?

Companies House website seems to be a bit broken at the moment, but his company is listed which means we can get his last set of summary accounts and find out! Should only cost £1 I think.

Perhaps he meant that he was turning a profit of £250k rather than an overall turnover. Youngsters eh? Bless.

Don't like his website though. It's very obviously a template.

---------------

Went digging in the code. It's a template created by www.homestead.com - I thought this guy did websites?

Have run a few checks (I have unlimited companies house queries) and his current company was incorporated on 16th Jan 2007 and therefore hasn't submitted any annual returns yet.

This was the first UK Limited Company that Liam has been associated with according to their records.

EDIT: N.B. I should explain this data was from Creditsafe UK (a service which archives Companies House data and adds additional functionality) rather than Companies House itself as they are closed in the evenings I believe.

There's no way he could "employ" so many people on a T/O of £200k. perhaps they meant NP of £200K or these employees actually just earn a commission as agents ?

I don't think companies house allows webchecks in the evening.

He did say £200,000, but I think he meant profit, not turnover.

Nah it normally goes until midnight Mon-Fri, just seems to be broken tonight.

But looks like wsces has answered the question anyway.

We do a similar thing to him, Hosting, Web Design etc.

When he says "employs" I'd imagine he is including freelance programmers, web designers, support people that are paid per job, rather than on a full time salary.

What's he doing stopping taking the hosting orders, surely if you know you are going on BB you would have your wares available for sale

I think he must have more sites than the one we have found, I know Alexa isn't the best traffic estimator but if he's making £200,000 from a site with the traffic rank below then he should be bottling up his formula and selling it on!

People seem to think that a managing director of a company doesnt know the difference between profit and turnover. They always talk about turnover as it is the larger number and sounds more impressive

Does seem interesting that he hasn't be associated with any previous companies and the current one has only been incorporated in the last year - meaning the claim he's been 'running a company' since the age of 13 isn't exactly the whole truth.

Obviously he could have been talking about a sole trader, but what sole trader employs 12 people and has over a quarter of a million clients?

Has his business grown substantially in the last year since he incorporated - maybe.. but by 225k clients? You be the judge.

From experience I've found several MDs get confused between GP / NP and T/O ... and don't even mention margin and mark up

After some more digging...

Here's Liam selling a domain which I would say, not being an expert, would be a fairly highly sought after purchase (thewebsiteforum.com) for a measly £10 (with a profit of approx £2 at todays prices), payment accepted via paypal less than two years ago.

This guy is turning over £250k? Wow!

Registered Office -

166 LIVERPOOL ROAD
WIDNES
WA8 7JB

No charges against the Company

Director - Liam Young

Secretary - Debra Cotterill
Also interesting is that he lists his address on the website as:

OxyUK Technologies Group, Parr Street Studios, 33-45 Parr Street, Liverpool, L1 4JN

3345 Parr Street being a quite nice building full of a dozen little cubicle offices which you can rent and they offer 'virtual office' packages and mailing addresses. I go there about once a month. Next there at the end of January which will be too late to have a nosy around.

So the address in Widnes (Halton, really): his mothers house?

Yep found this link too with some deep googling

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/archiv.../t-448560.html

Looks like he's been peddling the 2million customers claim for some time, whilst busy ripping people off.

As pointed out in that thread or the ones linked in it, if he's got so many customers, why would he get so upset about just one of them.

At the end of the day he's just a web space reseller monkey, which anyone can do. I do a little bit of it on the side of my own company, but it doesn't make enough money to warrant spending much time on it, I just do web hosting as a convenience to some of my other customers.
