Arsenal TV not on Virgin Media?

From Setanta's website:

http://www.setanta.com/en/UK/Our-channels/

It would seem that Arsenal Tv is on Satellite but not VM. I got this from another thread in the Broadcasting forum. Does anyone know anything about this?

^^

That may be, but the channel has completed tests, and is now available on the Sky EPG. Given Setanta's close relationship with Virgin Media, I'd be surprised if VM didn't carry this channel (although I suppose there are a couple of other Setanta channels they don't carry). In any event, if VM customers do receive this channel, it's looking as if they will receive it a little late.

thats weird as the official Arsenal website says it will be on vm but that was a couple of months back.

"The Arsenal TV channel is planned to launch in December and will become the tenth channel offered as part of the Setanta Sports pack on satellite. Arsenal TV will be included in the Setanta Sports pack at no extra charge. On cable, the channel will be available as part of the Setanta Sports pack via Virgin Media. Arsenal TV will also be available to Setanta customers in the Republic of Ireland."

Sadly, Arsenal TV will not be on VM at launch. Capacity issues are blamed.

LOL that would take the biscuit wouldn't it. I didn't know that Space was such an issue though, err..... maybe if they closed down the forty or so analogue channels it wouldn't be.......

Knowing the brains at Virgin it will be Sky Sports 1.

Cable capacity or equipment

Is this a limitation of the cable bandwidth, or is it simply that they haven't got the necessary equipment ready to receive, process and rebroadcast another channel?

If the problem is cable bandwidth, I don't see how they will ever be able to add more HD channels in the future, which is rather disappointing for cable customers. As it is, there is barely any HD content even on demand - a few films and recorded stuff from BBC HD mainly.

Apparantly if they shut down the Analogue channels it will free up space to add another 70-80 digital channels. Let's hope they shut down their analogue service soon.

Some of those are actually owned by VM, so I guess will stay.

They should just get rid of virgin central which is just a rolling advert anyway.

But then I can think of better channels to have than ArseTV anyway.

A mix of both.

VM could invest more in both getting analogue closed down (which requires some incentive for people to actually make the switch, plus it needs them to actually make Digital TV available in all of its areas) and also invest in new equipment that would allow them to broadcast more.

In the US, some cable companies use Switched Digital Video which effectively means that only the channels people are watching get broadcast to a certain area (a bit like Video On Demand), which results in the ability to offer more channels. This would prove expensive for VM though and they aren't likely to choose this path any time soon.

Why have Arsenal TV when there's also Celtic, Rangers & Liverpool TV? They are so boring. I blame Man Utd for running MUTV as they started the trend.

As a Birmingham City fan, I don't think I could get too excited if they ever get their own TV channel. These channels are far too tedious compared to the rest of the Setanta package. Channels such as these are killing the game at grass roots level and I can thank god for the Blue Square Premiership where non-league clubs get the exposure they deserve. Goodness, there's so much turmoil at Oxford Utd in comparision to what going on at Newcastle!

Let's keep football TV for everyone, not just the elite few.

On the subject of unwatchable channels, I'd also do away with the shopping channels and at least a couple of dreadful music channels, i.e MTV Base.
