Is BBC 3's first look a mistake?

Surely the BBC 2 viewing figures go down as bbc 2 is no longer the channel where episodes air first. Plus do you think they planned to move it to three? Or did they just realise it's better on three.

The BBc won't care as long as the combined ratings don't go down. And if anything they'll probably go up slightly.

I think the ratings will go down a little, but the BBC will care about the combined ratings of the original broadcast on both BBC2 and 3.

I think they just want to do what everyone else is doing, having a first look thing. I think they should have done it from the start, because 'Reset' took the focus of 'Adam', which was a really good episode.

There just offering that see the next one thing, like they do on channel4/E4... it does defeat the object of moving it to bbc2, your right, as the new ones have ended up on three. I think the move to Bbc2 was to lift the shows status, by airing it straight on the terrestrial channel, instead of a digital one.
Loving this series by the way!!

It's been done purely to boost BBC3's viewing figures, as it's not exactly the most profitable station.

I guess they're trying to replicate the whole E4 First Look success of shows like Desperate HouseFraus, Lost & Hollyoaks.

Perhaps that was part of their plan - relaunch BBC Three with that damn pink monstrosity, then have first-run Torchwood episodes (episodes which are the ones which will arouse interest, with Martha's appearance etc), entice the BBC2 viewers to watch it on Three, and get them used to that pink DOG so that there are fewer complaints (and at the same time it softens up the viewing base for a further spread of the DOGS ....)

There's a method in their madness.

I suppose, but still the media may not think about including the bbc 3 ones and might just slate it because it's bbc 2 ones are down.

It did indeed! Adam a very good episode and the wind was kind of taken out of it because a better episode was aired straight afterwoods with a massive cliff hanger. If the media do any reviews they are more likely to write about the massive cliff hanger in Reset than what happened in Adam and people on here are more likely to discuss Reset than Adam etc.

Yes, I know. But it's one of BBC 2's biggest selling points at the moment, so I don't understand why the controllers of BBC 2 agreed to the arrangement.

Lol, because of a watermark haha. Won't you be watching the same episode over next week and thus have to wait 2 weeks for the next one then?

A lot of people who posted during the episode complained about the DOG, but personally I didn't even notice it!

ps yes I am talking about Reset, before anyone tries to get smart!

I don't think the iPlayer version had anything intrusive on it, if that helps?

I was always under the impression that BBC 'three' are only having the 'first showings' for episodes 6, 7 and 8...the Martha Jones episodes, then it reverts back to solely on BBC Two...?????

Did you read that anywhere?

If true, it means those of us who watch it on Three will have a two-week wait for episode 9, unless Two has a double-bill for 7 and 8. (I think! )

The first look thing is untill the end of the series I think. There's no reason to think otherwise.

Not 100% certain, i 'thought' i may have read it somewhere, because the producers knew that fans would be keen to see the next episodes of this 3 story arc asap, so they made them available on 'first look' on bbc three...

Cud be wrong, just don't understand why they chose to wait till almost half way through season 2 to start doing this....

I watched both on BBC HD and wasn't even aware that there was a DOG, although I suppose there must have been.

I guess it just shows that a subtle DOG doesn't really get in the way when you're completely engrossed in a programme.

Why is everyone calling the BBC3 logo a DOG?

Don't get me wrong, I liked having 2 new episodes to watch last night but I thought it was fine the way it was.

Because BBC 3 just relaunched so it's something to add to their list of 'new' features.

I have to say that though I thought that the DOG was horrendously large and very pink when the episode started, by the end I'd stopped noticing it because I was involved with the episode.

They start doing a first look for Torchwood, the show that's got the record for BBC3's highest ever rating, starting with Martha's first episode the day after BBC3 relaunches. I wonder why they could have done that? Oh yeah to get the ratings up.

Totally OT but I miss the blobs!

To be honest though, how many people who watched it on BBC3 last week will still watch it again on BBC2 next week cos theres nothing else on anyway? I suspect quite a few of them - esp as it gives them a chance to 'refresh' their memory of what happened before the next episode at 10am.

Does anyone have the comparable ratings for Torchwood BBC2 for last season and this season?

I think it's a bad idea only because it ruins any cliffhangers etc because everyone can just watch it straight after!
There's no "Ooh I can't wait for Torchwood next week" between everyone - it makes for a bit of a divide.
