Well that's cheered me up...I hope it extends to Saturday morning warm up/qualy practice whatever they call it.

Just a thought....

Will the stream come with commentary?

Dunno, the commentators usually talk about how they've been watching practice from a certain corner around the circuit so it may just take the world feed with no commentary. Still better than nothing.

Arius, you tease! How long have you known this was in the pipeline?

Shame it's UK rights only, but it's my fault for living in Belgium. Eurosport France it is, then!

Maybe this is what his hinting about a change to the ITV commentary team was all about...using Friday practices to train up someone new?

We can only hope!

No mention of any system requirements are there?
it would be my luck for it not to work on MAC.

Jp

PS...any bets the video server goes KABOOOM tonight around 11:05pm?

Good news, but if they're going to the effort of putting together a programme, why not use it to fill in gaps on ITV4? Unless the webstream will be a raw world feed. Either way, nice one ITV.

Noticed this bit in the press release:

"Steve Rider will present ITV’s coverage of the eagerly awaited 2008 F1 world championship alongside Martin Brundle and Mark Blundell."

Selective choice of presenters there... (I know it mentions JA elsewhere, but leaving him out of their summary)

Typical....

Yep...just as I thought

"We do not yet support Mac OS for viewing video, but register your interest on our Feedback form if you'd like us to tell you when we do."

Took me all of 25 second to go from elation to dissapointment

WOW! Great news! I saw a story the other day that RTL were streaming their coverage and thought shame ITV don't do that lol
"Live online streaming of Friday practice – not currently available to UK audiences. " Both sessions??

Well done ITV and thanks Bernie!

I presume the simulcasts of quali/the race will have adverts inserted into them, but will the free practice sessions run ad free?

If it is who I think is doing the ITV Sport clips, there may be a way around it using Flip2Mac - the wmv player converter.

Incidentally, how long has F1 on ITV been sponsored by Sony?

Doing the "convert to my local time" on the official f1 website:

Thursday 2300 for practice 1 (less than 8 hours )
Friday 0300 for practice 2

Pretty great news! although it doesn't say if it will include all practice sessions or commentary. But still a major advancement - Thanks a lot ITV.

This is very clever if you think now anyone (even if you're at work) can in theory watch practice, plus its got to cost less for ITV to stream online with out added tv broadcasting costs.

7 Hours to go!

A while.

I'm surprised that none of you got this earlier, given that for nearly two weeks there has been a promo running for the Australian GP on ITV1 and ITV.com

Yeah but I very rarely watch ITV or indeed look at their website. Still it's good news (not for MAC users though... sorry JP hope you come up with a solution) and it's about time that both FOM and ITV started using the technology that's now available to them to provide this service as there is a demand out there. Little worried that now the Press Conferences will go altogether from ITV's television coverage as it'll be streamed online (any chances of the on board feeds and Ferrari channel as well?). And there I was ready to squint at a postage stamp sized Eurosport France tonight from 11. Now all I need is a streaming recording tool

Just wondering where the postage stamp is available? I might (briefly) have reconsidered stumping up €39.90 for the full screen version of their Player if I'd known!

Good news, but I have a question. As I refuse to stay up till the early hours, would this mean that I can watch practice, qualifying + race when I get up without worrying about recording it throughout the night.

And I think this is the killer blow - BBC will not get back rights in 2010.
