Do You Find Robert Peston (BBC News Reporter) Really Annoying?

Anyone agree with me that he is over enthusiastic and too intense to listen to?
Or is it me?

BBC, please tell Robert Peston to calm down. I find it impossible to listen him, which is a shame, as I am sure he has a lot of valuable contributions to make.

Calm down Robert!

Don't even know who he is so he can't be that enthusiastic.

Do you find miles' style of writing (all centred and stuff) really annoying?

The centre text stuff - yes. The needless "bold" attributes shouting at me - yes.

As regards Robert Peston - no, not at all.

Yes, I do. He's easier to read in a blog than listen to.

The main problem for me is that he rushes sentences and puts in pauses where you don't expect them. He also can't control the volume of his voice, which goes up and down all over the place. Not very easy to follow on a news report.

Not at all - I love it. Feels more natural. Better then left or right centered! Do you feel a new thread comin' on?

Glad I'm not the only one. You hit on something re: his voice volume. I can't listen to him. I feel so sorry for the news readers when he is in the studio. They must have to take Nurofen when he has finished!

Totally...you are so correct. The only other reporter who scared me was Joshua Rosenburg, anyone remember? He was bald with the beard. Scary man...however...Robert Peston now takes the crown. Highly irritating and headache inducing!

How strange you should broach this subject as I too have suddenly become aware as to how annoying his voice and delivery is, especially when he now seems to be on the radio and TV so frequently. In some ways he seems more annoying on the radio because there is no visual distraction.
No doubt another clever man but extremely tiresome to listen to.

Agreed. I am sure he is a very intelligent and knowledgable reporter, but his delivery and presentation totally detracts from the information he is trying to impart. I find I just switch off from listening to him and look forward to the line... "Robert Peston...thank you very much. Moving on..."
Come on Robert, sort it out!

Oh dear, Robert Peston on the news everyday this week. I can't cope with his over dramatic delivery combined with unchecked dynamic control. I have to mute him everytime he comes on.

I agree he does deliver his sentences rather oddly me and my mum as a result find it very funny listening to him making jokes about him as his sentences get louder, pause at an odd point

Hi,

Now just imagine not already knowing about him, being told he's the BBC's business Editor, presenting the 1st story of the day, and him telling you your bank is in trouble in those psycho -dramatic tones!

Is it any wonder he'd cause a run on any bank.

These idiot business journalists (along with the govt.) precipitating events for the sake of some air-time.

Kind regards,

MN

It's not really very nice to laugh at someone attempting to control a stammer. Do you laugh at the disabled too?

Well, I like him. It's Andrew Marr that annoys me.

He does appear to be making himself to be part of the story. The cult of the celebrity news reporter me thinks, when really he is getting fed a lot of stuff from inside the Treasury. Still if we criticise him, we will be accused of being obsessed.

I posted in another topic quite a while ago that I hoped the financial crisis would be solved soon, so we wouldn't have to suffer Robert Peston on nearly every news bulletin.

He makes me not only want to leave the room, but the planet.

I find his delivery irritating, but given he has now broken three important exclusives (B&B, HBOS and Northern Rock) I am always prepared to listen to what he has to say as he clearly knows what's happening.

He is the best example of a bad reporter. When he on radio and is reading from a script he speaks with no pauses and no irritating emphasis on random words. Go live and then he stumbles, pauses and emphasises ridiculously. The sooner BBC take him off our screens the better. He is really bad.
