BBC i-player virgin web page

I typed in bbciplayer after virginmedia.com and found this web page:-
http://www.virginmedia.com/tvradio/o...-is-coming.php
Just thought it may be a useful insight into what is coming soon.

I'm glad it's through the red button and not the stupid CUTV on demands menus

If the BBC are doing it, it's bound to look better than the current VOD menus

BBC iPlayer and Virgin TV - making the unmissable unmissable.

Nooooo.....not the red button. Bloomin things hardly works on my box. Hopefully they will put a link through the On Demand button.

Edit - reading that page is all that its really saying is that the iPlayer is coming soon (as normal) and if you want to see what it is like have a look at Catch Up which you can access through red button.

At the moment, the Catch Up service on Virgin misses some programmes and it takes them a while to add the programme to the list. With BBC iPlayer, I'm assuming almost all their new programming from the last 7 days will be available to watch almost immediately after they have been broadcast. I'm also guessing it will look similar to the BBC iPlayer on the internet.

Seeing as there is no physical link to that page from the VM website (well I can't find one), it isn't live yet. Hence the 'coming soon'

It's only however many hours there are on the online version, surely it's going to include all the programmes and not just a few

I read the page as saying that it will start off just being available via the red button on a BBC channel but soon it will also be available via the Catch Up TV section of the menus

We're soon going to be launching BBC iPlayer as part of Catch Up TV on demand but we thought you would like a sneaky peek of what it will be like! So from early April you can tune to any BBC channel, press red and go to BBC iPlayer.

Will have to wait and see but if it is less than available on-line ( and 300 certainly is! ) then it looks more like a tinkering to the catch-up rather than the TV version of the i-player

I hope they have not miss another chance with an expectation met with a "less than" delivery

Come on VM start punching your weight!

yes we do.

it'll basically have everything that's on the iPlayer, ie virtually all BBC's content from the last week, as opposed to the far smaller, sometimes hit and miss, selection we currently have.

and it'll have a different UI, with a bit more pink basically.

there's a preview clip kicking around somewhere, probably in the nearby thread on the same subject.

given that the combined broadcast hours of BBC1, 2, 3 and 4 comes to a total of 462 hours, including some duplication, particularly on 3 and 4, you'd be doing well to actually find 500 hours....

yeah - fair enough with the kids stuff.

not so sure about News 24 on catch up tho', or parliament.

anyway - the figure i had in my head actually was 500 hours.

a reasonable thought might be they'll put 300 odd hours up initially, and build it up between any soft launch, and any full launch.

even 300 hours is way more than we have now, and it almost certainly will include all the primetime stuff that most people would be interested in anyway.

yes - i'm expecting the iPlayer on Virgin to look almost exactly like that preview of the iPlayer on Virgin.

why - what are you expecting?

They are on the online iPlayer, so would be surprised if they were left out for VM.

I will be very pleasantly surprised if my cable box can be anywhere near that level of speed, functionality and aesthetics. Maybe I am being pessimistic, but I am expecting something along the lines of what we have now but with more content. I must try to be less cynical though!

back in the old days of TW, the interactive stuff was hopeless, but these days it's generally pretty good.

on a V+ box, it pretty much is that responsive.

and aesthetics wise, it looks very similar to what we have now, but laid out a bit differently and with different colours.
