Ah, I also cannot wait. OotP was a very slight improvement on the dire GoF, so I'm expecting a lot.

I think that the last two films were both rubbish, but at least GOF was less boring than OOTP.

My hopes aren't high for HBP, loved the book, but as a film i think it'll be quite boring, like OOTP, and with David Yates directing.... Hmm....

Oh well! The first three films were the best, but maybe the sixth one will join them in my top favorates

Let's hope so. My favourite has always been and will probably remain the first one. The magic Chris Columbus captured has yet to be seen by any of the other directors IMO.

I think they've improved film on film - largely because the three main stars are finally learning to act.

Wonder if he's any relation to Ralph Fiennes.

I don't recognise any of the new actors above.

What I want to know is who will be the muggle prime minister?

Swapping PoA and GoF in that list, that's my order.
I adored OotP though, my favourite book.

I find it really funny that Harry Potter fans usually fall into one of two camps when it comes to the films. PS and POA usually being the deciding factors. One is usually the favourite and one is usually the most hated.

Your list made me laugh because it is the the exact opposite to mine. I don't actually hate PS and COS secret but they do bug me. Especially when you see what they can actualy do in the later films. POA is one of my favourite films ever, not just when it comes to Harry Potter. The first two just seemed to be the book on screen. A bit twee and boring.

I see the films as a sort of really big budget fan art. I don't want to see them take every single scene from the books and put them on screen. That is boring and a bad way to put novels on screen. Books and films are totally different mediums and have very different ways of telling stories. POA for me got it spot on. Beautifully stylised and perfectly structured.

But none of the "magic" was carried over from the way Columbus envisioned it.. I adored everything about how Hogwarts and the cast were portrayed in the first two films (the first especially). The Great Hall, the corridors, the common room.. then they started doing stupid things like having choirs and wearing their own clothes.. it just wasn't the same.

Columbus' films had a certain magical feel to them, and yes.. although I have to accept the books get darker and cannot be edited just to be a PG (which I'd protest against) I just felt the continuity was awful, but I guess that was just down to the problem that one director wouldn't commit to seven films, even if the majority of the cast have done.

And as for GoF and OotP, they just seemed to cut out all the necessary parts and add in just those that would look good on screen. Very, very poor adaptations in my opinion.

POA, and OOTP are my favourites so far. Really really enjoyed Order of the Phoenix and look forwards to the new one.

I'm only going by the films though, I never read the books so I don't know how well they hold up.

Still no trailers but more and more images are coming out. You can find most of them on:

www.mugglenet.com

The trailer should come very soon though, I think it will be first shown during one of the big summer films like the Dark Knight which is out in July which will be about 4 months before the film is released.

I loved OoTP as a book too, I wasn't too happy with the movie. It was ok I suppose, they had a lot of stuff to cover in a short space of time which meant the movie was a bit too fast paced for my liking. It plot jumped a lot very quickly. In my opinion, the films rank:

Philosopher's Stone
Chambers of Secrets
Order of the Phoenix
Prisoner of Azkaban
Goblet of Fire

I liked all of the HP films except for The Prisoner Of Azkaban. I hated the book too.

I like the Harry Potter books - the films are - well - pants!

Except that ... I do love Jason Isaacs, Alan Rickman and Tom Felton's portrayal of their characters (who are also my favourite characters in the books - since BEFORE I saw the films) ... so I have the films on dvd and just fast forward through, mainly until I catch a glimpse of Tom Felton's hair which stands out in the crowd scenes ...!

What the films have done to their characters is nothing short of criminal - reduced to almost extras in the last film for example.

Half Blood Prince will be interesting since it's difficult to see how they can cut out Draco and Snape (I know Lucius is in prison) without totally ruining the story line but then that's never bothered them before.

I am though, horrified that apparently Warner Bros is screwing the timeline so badly that they have a young Lucius at school with Tom Riddle ... and have filmed the scene. When in truth Lucius is far, far too young to have been in that scene.
