Freesat available via independents

OK, I know some people here like links

I've been saying for a number of days that Freesat have dropped the exclusive deal, here's a link about it.

Thank goodness for that. At least there will be some retailers selling the service that actually have some understanding of how it works. God help anybody buying a PVR from Comet or Currys in gettiing the correct installation package.

My thoughts exactly, glad it's sorted.
I think they realised that it would be a huge mistake leaving the independent(knowledgeable) retailers.

I notice DS have now added it as a news item, perhaps they may be interested to know that ERTWeekly paper edition mentioned DS in the previous issue, quoting it as the source for early release of Freesat specifications and screen shots

Possibly too late for them to be selling them from launch though. They have to sign SLAs and place orders for boxes probably in short supply next week.

Fair play Nigel, you did mention this a few days ago

Its great news, but no alltrade on the list of master distributors yet eurosat are? Interesting!

Question is, an agreement has been met, but from when? Too late now for the launch, but are we talking immediate, or 6 months down the line? Eurosat had no news for me today!

I was told (the same few days ago) that it would be 'shortly after launch'. I thought it was interesting that Eurosat were on it at all, although presumably there will be a similar restriction on sales, as with Sky boxes. But I imagine any Eurosat customer, on signing the SLA, will be able to buy them?.

Going back a few months now, following the exit of Sagem, Eurosat told us they were planning sourcing their own Freesat box, presumably branded Manhatten?.

I was a little odd that Eurosat were mentioned too. Maybe they'll put the same ASA restrictions on as with Sky boxes, or maybe just a free for all. Either way, i'm set to sell

All sellers must satisfy an SLA about how they sell the product and must be in a position to offer installation. But it should be OK for most independents.

Had a Eurosat order form arrive in the post this week. They are eieving boses on Tuesday for delivery immediately. There was a restiction that you had to sign a freesat agreement first although we are yet to see it. Also Retra have an agreement with Freesat as do Euronics as reported in ERT I Believe.

No commercial interest, the agreement for independant retailers has only just been made, I didn't expect for atleast 6 months, but the exclusive deal was only dropped last week.

Fairy nuff, but if your site has links to where people can buy it from YOU then i don't think you should be posting links to it on this site, that would be spam surely.

If Argos qualify, independents shouldn't have a problem. It's a catalogue shop. Not somewhere you go for information on their products.

Neither are Comet, Currys, or J L. Not a problem if they farm out the installation. I wa referring to the matter of being able to give advice.
