Sun Cream Allergy
My 3 year old has developed an allergy to sun cream
. I have tried hypo-allergenic to no avail and am currently trying out e45 sun cream. Docs told me is just a case of trial and error which is not too good for a red spotty itchy boy or my purse . Anyone else have this problem and what do you use? Have seen a couple on internet but really would prefer to use a brand I can buy in boots or something - just in case I forgot it on a day out or something! Any advise gratefully received, many thanks

we found my now 4 year old had an allergy to sun lotion when she was about 18 months old! her face and arms were all blotchy but we didnt realise at first as she had already got a few skin problems!
well we stopped using the lotion on her tht we were all using (wilkos own) and her skin cleared up, so it clicked that it was the cream, we now have to use Nivia for kids (the small blue bottle with the yellow pump) shes fine now but we cant use anything else on her typical she can only use the really expensive stuff but we get it when its on ofer which it is in Boots at the mo!!

I'm not sure if I have an allergy to sun cream but I am extremly sensitive to most sun creams.
I find the only 2 that I get along with are Nivia and Tescos own. Trying to get the doctors to help with skin problems is a nightmare, one doctor actually told me that they only get a few hours training on skin problems throughout there whole training. |

Oh its a nightmare, we spent a fortune and chemists rarely take them back which is a disgrace, iended up giving them to friends and hoping their kids wernt allergic too.
Avoid:::- Simple, Boots own sensitive skin kid, Johnstons, Pampers sunnies wipes, Avon, Superdrugs own, Boots own adult type. There where others and as im pregnant again myheads like a seive and i coudnt name them all now. Our gp was useless said stick with a sunsuit and a hat and no lotion or go with the allergic ones and piriton. Personally i wasnt prepared to put chemicals in her she diddnt need. This year so far weve gone with the sunsuits, hats and sainsburys own kids range which have been good. I took my daughter to sainsburys each week whilst grocery shopping and plastered her in them at the begining of the shop (cheeky i know without buying them but infairness they are not sealed)A friend said their doc used to prescribe Roc, mine wont

Just to say that I am also having this nightmare as well-literally every single one that I am trying on him brings him out in the most awful spotty itchy rash and its drving both him and me nuts! ![]() Haven't even bothered to go to the dr's as I know full well what they are going to say but have ordered some Bergaderm sun mousse as its been highly recommended by a friend. It was originally made for people with excema so its supposed to be really good for those with sensitive skin. Its quite pricey though and you can't get it in Boots (although our one said they could order it for me) but I figured its worth it in the long run. It should be arriving tomorrow so I'll let you know how I get on if with it if you like. Another point which I found out as well (been endlessly searching on the internet!) is that its mainly the high spf creams etc that cause the problem with reactions etc because they are so so thick they cause the pores to block. Obviously we usually put the high spf ones on our little'uns so if might be better to try a lower spf and apply more frequently. This Bergaderm stuff comes in spf 12,20 & 30 and its a mousse which lasts for 6 hours (ideal for nursery/school etc) and because its a mousse its supposed toi sink into the skin and not sit on it which should hopefully mean it doesn't block pores! Hope it works anyway...I can stand seeing my little boy so unhappy. |

I have ridiculously sensitive skin, at times I think I'm going to end up allergic to or intolerant of almost everything out there
![]() Anyway enough of my woes, try the Nivea sunscreen, it is one of the few products I can use. |

Same problem with my 3...and they are all allergic to different brands...the only one that is Ok for all 3 is Nivea - not the hypo or the child one the regular adult version in any factor.

Thanks for all your replies, Sadly I have tried Nivea (damn), E45 is causing a rash but not as bad a before, so I might try to leave it to die down a bit and then re-start (not really a problem with weather in Scotland). Jules29 would be really interested to see how you get on. Thanks again, really appreciate it

I spoke to the guy I ordered it from this morning (just to check when it was arriving!) and he said they've been absolutely inundated with people wanting it for exactly the same reasons. Its really strange because put suncream on him last year and the year before with no problem...hmm! |

I'm allergic to sun cream but can use Avon sensitive, Delial sensitive, Piz buin sensitive and Tesco sensitive. Boots soltan sensitve didn't work for me but they refunded.Hyperallergenic doesn't necessary mean it is ok for sensitive skin as I have found out to my cost.
It would probably be an idea to wait for the rash to disappear before trying anything else so you get a true picture, the heat is probably also aggravating the rash as well. I find Aloe Vera gel helps with this. |

We have always used the same one but the day befor yesterday was the first day we have used it this year. Yesterday he came out in great big blotches and thousands of tiny spots where we put the lotion on him ![]() Poor little thing is dosed up on antihistamines and calamine now. |

Hiya, i also for the past couple of years when abroad have had problems with suntan lotion, blotchy rash on arms, rash on face and stuff like that, but this year i used this stuff
http://www.healthinajiffy.co.uk/adva...sun+tan+lotion and it really worked, i didnt get a rash or anything and i didnt even get prickly heat, and it was the hottest place i have been this year edit - just looked at the factor they do and they may not be high enough for your son, i didnt think of that |

Well...my Bergaderm sun mousse stuff arrived and its fantastic.
If I didn't know it was sun cream and had an spf of 30 I honestly wouldn't know I had any on (thought Id better try it out as well lol!). We tried a little bit on my little boy last night with no reaction so gave it a proper test drive today and he's been absolutely fine...we've been in the park most of the day and he's not spotty, red or blotchy and isn't itching!! YAY! Its really weird because when you put it on it really doesn't feel like you've got suncream on at all...its like a hair mousse that you just rub into your skin and it disappears. It doesn't leave that horrible sticky feeling and it honestly doesn't feel like you've got any sun cream on at all. I am totally converted...yes its expensive and you have to buy it on line so you need to be prepared in case you run out but am convinced thats a small price to pay! |

I have just came across this thread and couldn't help but offer some ideas
![]() I was talking to a friend in work today and was saying the same thing, that her 3 wee girls are allergic to certain types of suncream. She was saying that Tesco's own brand, which she paid I think £2 something for a factor 20 and 15 orked wonders for 2 of her girls, they didn't burn and she was even able to use it as she has psorisis (sp) The other cream she is now using for her other girl is Malibu cream, and she got a factor 25 and 30 for her and she hasn't burnt with that one

Some good advice on here..
Can anyone recommend where I can get Bergaderm from? Preferably before the weekend? Also, which Tesco product is everyone using? Is there a tesco range for kids (we have 4yr old daughter) or are you using the adult range? thanks. |

Hi,
I'm going to Egypt in a couple of weeks and suffer with the same suncream allergy so. I've always found Piz Buin allergy to be the best although it just minimises the rash so I still have to put up with it. Thanks for the info on the Bergaderm mousse, fingers crossed it works. I've just ordered some of that Bergaderm Sun Cream off of Ebay, this is the link: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...%3DI%26otn%3D2 It's the cheapest I could find by a long way. I'll let you know how I get on with it. Regards.

hi
saw the thread and thought id add this year were having a complete success - which is fantastic if this heatwave keeps up. We changed to "aloe pura" , organic aloe vera sunlotion and so far neither the 7month old nor the three year old have had any reactions. They are having it reapplied every few hours, it hasnt stung their eyes, caused heat rashes from sweating in regular sunlotion and so far the skin texture is def moistening ( usually very dry skin). The sun suits are factor 30, so im going with factor 25 on the exposed parts. Im thrilled as last year the drs only "answer" was not to cover them in any higher than factor 8 and just generally keep her indoors as much as possible. Apparently it wasnt the lotion that was causing the problems but the sweat below it that was causing the rash, itch and sore spots. so an all round success |

The Nivea range is the only one my kids skin will tolerate. I can use any old sun cream and am fine...but not my boys they go all splodgy and icky looking! Nivea all the way in this house.

My son is the same - I wouldn't call it an allergy to suntan cream but he is sensitive to perfumed products like me and I have to make sure I get the sensitive unperfumed sort. We're using Lloyds Pharmacy's own brand at the moment, "Solo" I think it's called and he's fine with it- he got absolutely plastered in it regularly at the air show recently and no reaction at all and absolutely no sunburn and it feels nice on as I've used it myself, but not enough obviously because I missed bits and burned. Ouch.

Sorry if this has been said, but Liz Earle products might be worth looking into. Easy to buy on the internet.

I suffer from eczema and i find if possible to try the sunlotions without linalool or lanolin in are ok. Its so annoying that so many companies are putting these ingredients in their products now days, as so many people seem to be allergic to them
