PlayTV UK aims for 50,000 subs within year

Quote:
PlayTV UK has formally announced the launch of its consumer IPTV service and said it aims to have distributed 50,000 set-top boxes within a year.

The company also confirmed which channels would be available on the service. A basic triple-play package includes the full public service broadcaster channel groups with timeshifts, Sky Three and Sky News, Virgin 1, UK History, Dave, The Hits, TMF, UK Entertainment, Teachers TV, the Community Channel, QVC, Price Drop TV, Bid TV, Ideal World, LBC, STV, Nuts TV and Smile TV.

A package called Play Entertainment and Family adds Discovery, MTV, VH1, Nickleodeon and Cartoon Network services and several others; and Play Movies offers TCM, TCM2 and Sixty 6 Films. Numerous sport channels are available with a Play Sports package and Setanta package, and Play World offers foreign language programming.

Who? How?

Whose network are these guys riding on? Website doesn't inspire masses of confidence, no availability checker, a 'fill in this form we'll call you back' page is all they have.

I don't think they've done much market research, they're doing a PlayTurkish package, I mean Discovery Turkish, one channel, a package and it's turkish who'd want that?

The estimated number of Turkish nationals living in the UK (students, au pairs, illegal immigrants are included) is around 150,000. They mostly live in London (Islington, Hackney, Harringey, Stoke Newington, Turnpike Lane, Newington Green in the North as well as Peckham and Lewisham in the South), Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, and Leeds areas.

In fact, as Watchdog pointed out there was nothing wrong with the insurance policy at all. It was the fact they craftily got the customer to believe they were from Sky that was the bogus bit.

They impersonated another company, that is still fraud.

Yes gingernut you're right! They went round telling people they needed to have a special ariel for freeview and charged them for installing it. Of course they didn't need a special ariel a normal roof ariel is sufficient. The company is a bunch of chancers and i won't be giving them my money!

Classy website...

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /launch/about/broadband.php on this server.

Then it does work, and probably wishes it didn't as it's talking complete nonsense:

http://www.playtvuk.com/launch/about/broadband.php

They've drawn up their ADSL as being like a cable network... apparently 8Mbit comes down the pole and is shared between customers, clearly nothing to do with distance from exchange, line quality, etc.

I wouldn't touch these guys with Carl Waring's never-going-to-be-used BT line.
