Just done a re-scan of Freesat channels and I now have 87 channels listed (69 TV 18 radio). That's an increase of 13 channels on my previous scan.

I thought this meant NEW channels, I now realize as I dont have a freesat box as such (use a DVB PC Card) that these are new to the EPG rather than new channels as such..

Nothing there stirs my loins.

Five is essential, then Dave followed by all the Freeview channels would complete the line-up for me.

Russia Today is Russian orientated News and current affairs

I think the point is that they will be 'new' to freesat, any additions have to be appreciated and we can of course delete the ones we don't want

Exactly, the info has appeared on the data streams, thus, are they yet on the Freesat (c) EPG? Not that I'm bothered!

I think we must accept that the Freesat forum is going to refer to the Freesat system by default. So 'new' channels means new to the Freesat EPG. Since these channels are already 'free' and have been from the beginning, it is all a bit of a game really.

Right. I re-scanned my Humax this morning when this thread appeared, and they didn't appear on the Freesat EPG (although they were always on non-Freesat mode, or at least RT was ... since that's the only one I'd be likely to notice).

Is there any indication amongst any of this discussion that they will actually be coming to the Freesat EPG, or is this just speculation at this stage?

Those are the BBC & ITV regions, actually.

I was referring to the existing TV channels in that list.
'Netplay tv', whatever it is, will also be available in the same manner when it appears.

The point I was making is that all existing FTA channels are already available to an FTA receiver. The idea that they are 'new' is peculiar to the Freesat system.

This forum is now dominated by references to the Freesat system and therefore it will be increasingly seen from that point of view.

On a plus note - the BBC regional channels are now in place and we have some plus 1 ITV channels (on the EPG). Freesat does need to start adding more watchable TV channels soon though before interest in Freesat starts to tail off/tails off even more. (in my humble opinion)

Apart from C5 and some +1s, all the 'new' channels are already broadcasting FTA. Until they're added to the EPG, you'll need to access them in non-Freesat mode.

I don't think you'll find many 'watchable' though!!

In fairness, there aren't that many 'watchable' channels on Freeview, either. Personally, I stick mostly to the big five terrestrials and their daughter channels. Once Freeview get Five -- and, I would hope, find the room for Fiver and Five US as immediately as is possible -- there won't be all that much of a difference.

Dave & Virgin 1 are of interest to some, but won't be on Freesat (yet). The Zone stable are of interest to others, but won't be on Freeview. Some folks like Sky News on Freeview; others (like me) will be better-pleased with Aljazeera (and potentially others) on Freesat to top up News 24. Both platforms have way too many g*dd*mn infomercial and auction channels. (One, in fact, is far too many.) Although it's nice that, on Freesat, they're all stuck off in their own section of the EPG so that you have to go out of your way to find them. (That, alone, could sell me on Freesat over Freeview!)

All in all, it's heading toward being about even, I'd say.

Yeah these are obviously new to the freesat EPG, not brand new channels, this is the freesat forum. Netplay TV is claiming to be a SD Television service on the same transport ID and service ID as Roulette TV. The authority_descriptor is netplaytv.com, but it contains www.liveroulette.com in the details for the shows.

These channels are definately going to be on the EPG, otherwise they would not have turned up in the data, when? who knows, but I doubt it will be long now there are there. Last night the epg data was either generic or missing, but its started to be filled in with real data, although Shop-on-TV has a load of nonsense in it ("Pashenupane'sth Cls an" is at the end of all listings amoung other stuff), but it's not intended for public consumption yet, they are clearing getting it all ready and testing. However the non-launch regional channels were broadcast epg data from day one, but only went into the EPG the other day.

The Zone channels are the two worth having, I think freesat is a great opportunity for them to really up their profile, I'd sat they are the forth subs-free group, ahead of five, ITV are going downhill fast, but at least have some live sport. ATM Romantica and Thriller are only broadcasting series data, hopefully episode data will soon start being sent.
