Full official list of receivers incompatible with 8k mode

As found in another thread, link to the PDF of DigitalUK's official non-8k compatible list:
http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/2kequipment

(This follows on from the old List of IDTVs and STBs incompatible with 8k thread which, for some inexplicable reason, has been locked)

That's rather annoying. Almost every STB I own is on that list.

Also annoying that Digital UK cheerily say that all 2k-only IDTVs can be easily "upgraded" by adding a set-top-box... talk about missing the point.

And the Pace DTVA, one of my favourite STBs - also no good. What a bunch of crap. Not sure why they think that there were "none sold" of the Sony VTX-D500 box - I'm pretty sure that's not true.

"Gone digital? Spent a lot of money on a digital TV or set top box? Sorry, you'll have to buy a new one". I'm pretty sure that's not how it was meant to go.

Still, at least 8k is far, far away... isn't it? Maybe Sky should say that they want to transmit their channels in 8k so that Ofcom can delay it for so long that the UK gives up the idea entirely.

I'm rather surprised at how many new-ish boxes are on that list (there's even some IDTVs from as recently as 2005) and, yeah, the Sony and the Pace DTVA I recall both as being pretty popular (and the Sony was quite expensive at the time - there's an awful lot of Sony IDTVs on the list as well, must have had a job lot of cheap 2k DVB-T tuners). My old IDTV is there, but I knew that anyway - I intend to replace it with a shiny new DVB-T2 HDTV before DSO turns up here.

Hardly, it comes in at DSO for each region AFAIK. That's only two months away.

That used to be the official position. All mention of 8k has now been removed from the latest Ofcon/Digital UK regional transmitter frequency allocation tables. Why??

I can only assume that the switch to 8k may now take place at a later date than DSO; maybe when HD arrives in 2010?

From memory there were none sold by Ondigital.

I recall what appeared to be a warehouse full of non-mheg Sony boxes appearing on the market shortly after ITV-Digital collapsed.

According to DigitalUK "A few of the oldest digital boxes and TVs will stop working at switchover", they then go and link to the above PDF, which clearly states "If your box or IDTV has stopped working and is not listed contact your retailer or the manufacturer for confirmation that it is a 2K COFDM only model."

Therefore the switch to 8k is still happening at switchover, unless DigitalUK don't know what is going on (and I'd hope they do).

I thought the Sony IDTVs were compatible? I wonder if I complain if they would send me a new TV?

The Sony IDTV I have is listed here (yet Sony UK couldn't confirm whether it was compatible or not).

I have the KV32DS60 It carrys a DVB logo on the front. wasn't 8K part of the original DVB standard?

I assume the 'upgrade' that this document lists isn't a tuner swap, but rather is the additional on an external set to box?

I knwo the tuners in these TVs are modular, since when purchased it didn't support MHEG but Sony offered free upgrades. The engineer took the back off and pulled out the tuner card and replaced it with a different one.

Strange! Just been doing some A/V kit rationalisation today and thought I would try rescanning my Pace DTVA which has been sitting there unplugged, unused and unloved for three years. Scans fine, works fine. Was going to Freecycle it but may get a tenner for it as it is still fully working.

It will only work until DSO then the lack of 8k compatibility will mean it will then become useless.

I take it that received the OAD required for Top-Up-TV then?

Er ... I think so. It is now sitting in a box of unused bits waiting for me to decide what to do with it so I won't be firing it up to check the firmware level. Seem to recall it was lasted updated around December 2005. Would that be about right?

Oh well, there goes my Panny TX-32DT30

It's been dying bit by bit over the last few years as OAD's stopped for it and now it's going to keel over completely.

Does anybody know about the Thomson DHD4000 PVR?
I've seen no mention of that and it's been around for a few years now.........?
